"Shaped by culture, not Christ" . . . how Nicole describes the way providing within marriage has been regarded, historically.
Something that stood out to me in this eGuide, "Provision, Power & Partnership: Reclaiming Covenant in a Culture of Control", was Nicole's point that "we've confused control with covenant". Rather than recognizing historical value of "shared leadership" and "mutual respect", which Nicole attributes to Biblical teachings, some elements of the culture today promote women being kept "under control" to maintain order.
Her eGuide, traces the change in household roles of providing over time, and their relation to historical events and circumorbital roles of men and women, and using historical context gives a very reasoned and rational take on provider stances, providing historical context for what led women to enter the workforce, and start earning an income. It also shows that women did what needed to be done for their households to survive changing and trying times throughout history.
Nicole points out in this eGuide that nowhere in the Bible is it stated that women are to remain in the home, rather than work, pointing out examples within the Bible of women working, engaging in business, trade, and government.
My takeaway from this eGuide is that what's wrong in how the roles of men and women in marriages today goes back to earthly ideas, not from Biblical teaching, and not from God. It is an "earthly" idea that women should not work, but should be at home. It is an "earthly" idea that marriage is a "50/50" business, not a "shared mission" based on respect for each other.
Or, as Nicole put it, it's "culture talking, not Christ".

Now let’s dive into today’s lesson:
Week 1 of Voice and Vulnerability
40 Days of Mrs. Pinky Thoughts: Day 2: When God Is Quiet But I'm Not Crazy
I been through a lot this year. And I'm going to address it a bit. Hopefully, like many of the things I share, it helps those of us that aren’t so squeaky clean. In fact, riding through a storm shows you so much.
I've seen betrayal before. I've seen backstabbing. I've been to combat and seen children during war. I've seen oppression up close, and I've been a sexual assault survivor. I lost a child.
I still was not ready for what was to come.
December 2024, my aunt passed away from pancreatic cancer. She was a powerhouse spiritual leader, co paster, aunt and friend. My mom's older sister supported my work and never told me she was dying. I felt a loss of spiritual significance. Yet, she was the 1st of many.
It's not that chronic illness took my loved ones who tried hard to fight their lives that bothered me. It was the domino effect of so many all at the same time.
People who were good family people.
People who knew Jesus.
People who were loved and cherish but struggled.
I was trained to survive combat, to lead others at war time and to do what we had to get home. I was trained to know God, be a good wife and mom, trained to love God and people. I wasn't trained to be without my dad.
And we Christians are always honest about out struggles because we think we'll help prove unbelievers right. That sometimes we get sad, feel like God is too quiet while our hearts bleed. Am I crazy? Why am I hurting so bad?
I’ve been sitting with some heavy themes lately: grief, worry, faith, and belief—not as abstract topics, but as things pressing against my ribs and waiting for me when I wake. And through it all, I’ve noticed a pattern: God has felt quiet.
Not absent. Just…quiet.
Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? Psalms 10: 1
This verse doesn’t shy away from anguish; it gives voice to what so many of us feel but are afraid to say out loud: “God, where are You in this mess?”
And I don’t think I’m the only one feeling this. I’ve had conversations with friends, followers, even former colleagues who are all quietly carrying this tension. Faith like a clenched fist. Belief like a breath they're holding. Worry like a soundtrack that won’t turn off. And silence—heaven's kind.
But here’s what I know deep down:
I’m not crazy. And neither are you.
We don’t need thunder to know God’s voice. Sometimes, the silence is the sound of a Father who trusts you more than you trust yourself.
Why Does It Feel Like Heaven’s Gone Still?
Sometimes, I wonder if I’ve missed something. A sign. A whisper. A warning. I wonder if the war in Iran or chaos in culture somehow made my own struggles...less relevant. I look at the state of the world and feel small asking for peace in my home, guidance in my calling, or provision in my bank account.
But then I remember: my needs don't compete with God's attention. He’s not overwhelmed. He’s not distracted. He’s sovereign and close at the same time.
God Still Speaks—Even When He’s Quiet
In Scripture, God spoke in many ways:
To Elijah, it wasn’t in the wind, fire, or earthquake—it was a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:11–13).
To Hagar, it was in the desert, when no one else saw her—but God did. He called her by name (Genesis 16).
To Job, it was after a storm of silence that God finally spoke—not to answer all his questions, but to remind him who He is.
And Jesus? He slept through the storm before He calmed it. Sometimes His silence isn't absence—it's invitation. He's inviting us to trust that He's already in the boat.
What To Do When Everything Seems Wrong
Here’s what I’ve been clinging to:
Lament boldly. David didn’t hide his pain. He poured it out: “How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1). Lament is not unbelief—it’s intimacy.
Pray with unfiltered honesty. Not the curated prayers. The real ones. Even when they sound like: “God, I trust You, but I’m tired of this.” He can handle the tension.
Anchor yourself in truth, not your timeline. “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) Not “be productive.” Not “be on schedule.” Just—be still. Know.
Remember, silence is still sacred. Jesus endured silence between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. But silence wasn’t the end—it was the setup.

To Anyone Feeling Forgotten: You Are Still Seen
You’re not invisible. You’re not faithless for feeling confused. And just because the sky isn’t splitting open doesn’t mean God’s not near. You have a Father who loves you.
He’s still writing. Still speaking. Still holding.
Even when heaven feels quiet, our Father is not gone missing.
Your heavenly father is still here. Still working. Still in control.
Maybe He’s giving you space to hear the echo of your own strength. Or maybe, just maybe, He’s already working behind the scenes—on hearts, on open doors, on miracles we wouldn’t have known to ask for.
Keep showing up in obedience, even when the applause is gone. Keep planting. Keep trusting. Keep believing. You’re not crazy for having faith in the quiet.
You’re just walking with a God who still speaks in whispers.
