A Fresh Start: 5 Effective Parenting Tips I Discovered for the Upcoming School Year
I am in full swing teaching a 7th grader and Kindergarten for the 2024/2025 school year. It's that time of year again for us here in Georgia and others; children are returning to school. Whether you choose homeschooling, public, or private education for your children's journey to excellence, we wish all parents a fantastic new year filled with learning. Parenting our children and ensuring they have a strong foundation is a key aspect of a remarkable marriage and family. The following tips are designed to make the coming year a joyful and enjoyable learning experience.
Tip #1: Be Consistent
Maintain consistency in your routine and expectations for your children this year. Inconsistency can disorient children more than anything else, as they rely on knowing what to expect from the adults in their lives.
Consider initiating their bedtime routine a few days or weeks before it's necessary, so they can adjust well ahead of time.
Ensure you understand the expectations regarding homework, curriculum, and your child's learning style to adequately meet their needs.
When children are clear about what to expect from the adults in their lives and how to fulfill those expectations, they are better equipped to perform as needed.
Tip #2: Be Involved
The economy may be challenging, and parents often find themselves stretched thin. However, active involvement in your child's education is crucial. This could include homeschooling, after-school programs, or regular meetings.
It's important not to rely solely on your child's account of events; they may be too overwhelmed to communicate everything.
Fortunately, we have more tools for communication than our parents did. Make the most of apps, websites, and emails to stay engaged with your child's educators and teams. Seek out resources early when difficulties arise, and don't hesitate to draw on the wisdom of others. I, personally, obtained a free homeschooling book that offers a wealth of tips from support groups, insights into learning styles, and various strategies to motivate children has been invaluable.
When you homeschool your children, you can shape their education according to your own standards, values, and ideas. In The Everything Guide to Homeschooling, homeschooler Sherri Linsenbach provides you with all the information, inspiration, and encouragement you need to easily and successfully homeschool your children from grades K–12. In June, I became ill and visited the emergency room. CT scans revealed that I had been battling a bacterial infection for two weeks, leading to a treatment with one antibiotic followed by two additional ones. This resulted in a C. diff infection, a bacterium that proliferates due to excessive antibiotic use, causing inflammation in my colon throughout this ordeal.
As medical expenses accumulate, I am striving to sustain Iconic.
Your support is needed.

Tips #3: Fuel their Mind and Body
Encourage your kids through great nutrition, rest and reading to them nightly.
Good food, especially for those littles with allergies, helps them stay focused in school instead of on a rumbling tummy or fighting off hunger.
Good Sleep helps them rest their minds and helps fuel their growing bodies and brains.
Good Reading every night helps them relax, expands their imaginations and gives them the power of reading with those they love.
Using night time to plan out clothes for the next day, prep meals and for organizing backpacks helps cut down rushing in the morning.
Homeschooling parents can involve kids in lesson planning and prep to encourage them to doing chores on their own for rewards.
Tips #4: Use rewards
Rewarding children is a great way to motivate them to get the things they need to do done.
Little one’s love sticker and chart systems where they can track progress and work towards a goal.
Older kids can be given allowance and learn how to manage money to but the things they need to on their own.
Rewards don’t need to just be with snacks or a later bedtime, be creative. The more creative, the more your child will participate.
There are vast resources online to help you build these rewards systems to incentivize your kids and to have fun doing it.
Tips #5: Set the example
Kids model behavior that they see in us. If you want them to do something, let them observe you doing it.
Let them catch you reading a new book, learning a new skill or getting something done by a deadline.
Make sure you mean what you say but modeling those habits of nutrition, exercise and being polite to them around them often.
Let them know the rules and consequences before you discipline them so they can set little goals to meet your ideas before it is an issue.
Show them that you care by attending school programs and meetings, having time to talk about any issues they might have and nipping any problems in the bud early.
Setting the example is a form of leadership that kids feel safe and secure because they know that they don’t just have authority telling them what to do but the whole family is participating as well.
Final Points
We at Iconic Media wish all of you a happy new school year.
We will put together more resources so family and parents can do this year without being so stressed out that it seeps into their marriage and household.
A great social empire is one of intention. Knowing what to do in the face of challenges, makes overcoming them possible.
Let this school year go off without a hitch and we congratulate graduates early because we know you will walk the stage.
Go out there and win the year, and remember, to be Iconic.
