Strong Dad June: 4 Lessons from Watching My Husband be a Strong Dad In Action
In 2010, the excitement of expecting a baby filled our lives. We attended the appointment, heard the heartbeat, but a few weeks later, we faced the loss of the baby.
This profound devastation is depicted from my perspective in my book, "Breaking Fear." He supported me throughout, his words even opening the book.
He, too, endured this loss.
Thus, when we welcomed our son in 2011 and our daughter in 2019, I had the privilege of witnessing a resilient father firsthand.
13 years of wedding bliss and then also parenthood I have learned a lot. And I have learned even more from my husband.
These lessons I hope resonate with you and explains why we celebrate all you wonderful dads this month.
Lesson #1: Learning on the Job
My husband doesn't have a strong relationship with his father, which meant he had to learn about fatherhood through his own experiences.
What I've observed is that he never resorts to excuses. The absence of his father didn't deter him from becoming a good dad himself.
This isn't to imply he doesn't feel an emotional void or that he isn't affected by the father-son relationships others have, but it never hinders him from fulfilling his role and being the father he never had.
Since we suffered the loss of our first child through miscarriage, he has been an unwavering support for me and an exceptional father to our two children.
He's embraced a hands-on approach, utilizing trial and error, books, YouTube videos, and our teamwork to become the best father my children could have.
Through illnesses, school activities, medical appointments, meal times, and more, Mr. Pinky has consistently performed his duties admirably.
He may not be perfect, but he is always learning and growing in his role.
Lesson #2: Building the Bond
My husband is my polar opposite: an introverted, quiet individual who observes first and then steps in to complete tasks.
His brilliance lies in his ability to figure things out on his own, even if he initially lacks the knowledge. This was evident during his time in the Army, where he advanced without direct leadership guidance.
He continues to evolve in his role as a father to our son and daughter, employing a distinct approach to discipline and bonding.
Our boys engage in playful wrestling, and our daughter will abandon any activity at the hint of her father's presence.

Lesson #3: Fatherly Leadership
In one of our other articles, we talk about the uniqueness of fatherly leadership.
Visit here:
My husband contributes significantly to the Pinkston unit daily by taking charge. He makes decisive choices about our living arrangements and our future plans. He supported the decision to homeschool our children and attended every conference with teachers and principals when our son was enrolled in school.
In his free time, he educates our son, even taking him to events just for the two of them. He also dedicates ample time to our daughter, enhancing her reading abilities and self-confidence.
Dad duties like hygiene, potty training, teething, diapers and more, this man is all over it.
There was nothing he won’t do for his kids.
He uses tv time to teach our son and we often talk about God and the Bible to instill Godly morality in our children.
From the previous article:
Most kids excel with the guidance, mentorship and push of a good father. From musicians, athletes, businesspersons, fathers impact the direction of their children.
These dads coach, teach, train and are present for their kids dreams. They push them through failures, pain, rejection and pivoting to something more.
Healing is not easy but a must. If you are missing your own dad or the relationship was not great, you need to dig deep because we all need more fathers.
Children desire to live up to the expectations of a father that wants nothing but the best from them or out of them.
My husband digs deep and does his obligation above and beyond the call of duty. He isn’t just the gift giver or the money provider, he teaches, coaches and trains up these children how they should go.
Lesson #4: Honoring Me as His Wife and the mother of His Children
My husband deeply loves me, even when I'm a bit troublesome (just kidding). He demonstrates respect for me in front of our children by using endearing names, holding doors open, valuing my opinions, and collaborating with me as the cohesive team we are.
He's instilled in me the understanding of my worth to our family, and he openly communicates areas where we can improve and excel. He supported me during the births of our children, encouraging me to do what was necessary to ensure our safe return home.
He promptly assists me with my physical, spiritual, and mental well-being and offers his support when I need to shed tears, like when I lost my grandmother.
He guides our children to respect my need for personal space, looks after them when I require a break, and together, they concoct delightful plans for my birthday and holiday gifts, which brings me joy just thinking about it. Does he seem too perfect?
Perhaps, but I won't pretend it didn't require effort from both of us. We've diligently worked to reach our current place, and we channel that dedication into the content we create here at Iconic.
Summary
My husband is the best father God could have given me for our children.
In the past, I was depressed because of failure after failure in many of my relationships.
Yet, by the grace of God he had my best friend waiting for me.
A man that did not let his harsh upbringing or bad childhood experiences ruin him but to propel him into the best version of himself.
My lover, fighter, Army battle buddy and friend, I live with a strong dad each and every day.
And as we continue to rear these kids the best of our ability, we are doing something that each of you can do.
We are building and that is what makes our marriage Iconic.
