"Shaped by culture, not Christ" . . . how Nicole describes the way providing within marriage has been regarded, historically.
Something that stood out to me in this eGuide, "Provision, Power & Partnership: Reclaiming Covenant in a Culture of Control", was Nicole's point that "we've confused control with covenant". Rather than recognizing historical value of "shared leadership" and "mutual respect", which Nicole attributes to Biblical teachings, some elements of the culture today promote women being kept "under control" to maintain order.
Her eGuide, traces the change in household roles of providing over time, and their relation to historical events and circumorbital roles of men and women, and using historical context gives a very reasoned and rational take on provider stances, providing historical context for what led women to enter the workforce, and start earning an income. It also shows that women did what needed to be done for their households to survive changing and trying times throughout history.
Nicole points out in this eGuide that nowhere in the Bible is it stated that women are to remain in the home, rather than work, pointing out examples within the Bible of women working, engaging in business, trade, and government.
My takeaway from this eGuide is that what's wrong in how the roles of men and women in marriages today goes back to earthly ideas, not from Biblical teaching, and not from God. It is an "earthly" idea that women should not work, but should be at home. It is an "earthly" idea that marriage is a "50/50" business, not a "shared mission" based on respect for each other.
Or, as Nicole put it, it's "culture talking, not Christ".
Breaking down the realities and misconceptions of roles within marriages today, a very effective and concise eGuide for today's couples. - Greg Bulla

Day 5: My Yes Isn’t for Sale Anymore
40 Days of Mrs. Pinky Thoughts: Faith, Fire & Forward Motion
There was a season when I said yes… To keep the peace. To stay in the room. To feel needed. To feel seen.
I said yes when I should’ve paused. I said yes when God said wait. I said yes when I knew it would cost me too much, but I didn’t want to be seen as “ungrateful.”
But on this Independence Day, I’m waving a new banner: 🔥 My yes isn’t for sale anymore.
Not to platforms that want my voice without my vision. Not to ministries that want the fruit but won’t honor the root. Not to people who want access but not accountability.
A lot of people will take what you have as long as you give it freely to them, with no respect for the cost or the labor, to use you as they see fit. Saying yes, when you mean no isn’t kindness, it is disrespectful to them and to yourself.
Your consent should matter enough to you that you don’t become a slave to society, to a cause, to an idea, that isn’t beneficial and only serve to give some arbitrary pats on the back of being a good person, when saying yes like this is under duress and it is really a no.
It isn’t only wrong but a lie. It is not just bad but a sin that God doesn’t look so kindly on because he knows your heart and your true intentions.
Instead, own your yes. Make it count for something real. Be honest with your no so that your yes can mean so much more. Give yourself some respect by owning your yes and being honest with your no.
🗽 Yes, This Is My Declaration of Freedom
Because “yes” isn’t just a word. It’s a seed. It’s an altar. It’s a covenant.
And I’ve learned—freedom doesn’t just mean marching away from Pharaoh. It means saying no to golden calves that look holy but distract from purpose. It means saying no to Egypt dressed in opportunity.
This year, my independence came when I realized I owe no one my burnout, not even me.
💍 How This Ties to Iconic Marriages
In marriage, we talk a lot about “submission.” But what does that really look like when you’ve said yes to everything and lost yourself?
At Iconic Marriages, we believe:
Submission is mutual.
Boundaries are biblical.
And your identity doesn’t have to shrink to be sacred.
We coach couples to stop saying yes to:
Performative relationships
Cultural pressures
Church trauma disguised as doctrine
Because every yes that isn’t God-ordained steals something sacred from the union.
🧨 A Word for Your Soul Today
Say this out loud with me:
> “I am no longer giving ‘yes’ to prove my worth. I am led by peace, not pressure. My obedience is costly—but no longer negotiable.”
