It is with celebrations and love, that I continue the work of Iconic Marriages in the memory of my father Clarence Pulley Jr, Brother Ronnie Pulley and Aunt Mary Harvin, who all went on to be with the Lord. It is not a time of great sadness because we know where they are as we all miss them deeply. We thank God for the time we had with each one of them, sharing love, our lives, and the memories we hold dear and, we do the will of God so we can see them all again one day.
I ask you Icons, that you, pray my strength in the Lord.
Embracing the Kingdom Marriage Mindset: Cultivating a Christ-Centered Union
In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy for couples to lose sight of the true purpose of marriage. But what if we reimagined marriage as a divine partnership, built on the foundations of faith and commitment to God? This is the essence of a Kingdom Marriages, rooted in Matthew 6:33: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
In April 2025, I will have been married of 14 years. In this time, my husband and I have grown a lot, learning to communicate better, talking deeply about important matters and raising our kids in a homeschool setting.
Nothing could have prepared us for the loss of my father and brother.
It was sitting at my father’s funeral where our most important mission came to be: Seeking the Kingdom of God. This mission is our true purpose and together, we plan to see our loved ones again as citizens in God’s kingdom. With the support and love we have for each other, our marriage is elevating with following the righteousness of God, with His divine guidance and help of course.
Let's explore how couples can cultivate this mindset, center their family around Christ, and perfect God's righteousness in their union.
What is a Kingdom Marriage?
A Kingdom Marriage goes beyond traditional marital expectations. It is a divine covenant where both partners commit to putting God at the center of their relationship. This means living out biblical principles, seeking God's will, and honoring Him in every aspect of their marriage. It is an intentional and ongoing journey of spiritual growth and mutual support with the mindset to do all this firstly.
Cultivating a Kingdom Marriage Mindset
Seeking God Together Couples must make a deliberate effort to prioritize their spiritual growth together. This includes daily prayer, studying the Bible, and attending church services. By seeking God's presence together, couples can strengthen their bond and align their hearts with His will.
Embracing Selflessness and Sacrifice A Kingdom Marriage requires a heart of servanthood. Just as Christ selflessly loved and served His church, couples must learn to put each other's needs above their own. This involves acts of kindness, patience, forgiveness, and sacrificial love.
Being two U.S. Army combat veterans, service is nothing new to us. Building Iconic Marriages together, is the epitome of serving our fellow man and Christ. We have the heart for service and continue to do so as we fulfill God’s will in our lives.
Building a Strong Foundation of Communication Open and honest communication is vital in any marriage, especially in a Kingdom Marriage. Couples should create a safe space to share their thoughts, feelings, and concerns, while actively listening to each other. This fosters trust and deepens their connection.
Prioritizing Worship and Service Worshiping God together and serving others as a team strengthens the spiritual fabric of a Kingdom Marriage. Whether it's volunteering at church, participating in community service, or simply worshiping together at home, these acts of devotion glorify God and bring couples closer.
Centering Family Around Christ's Message
Instilling Christian Values in Children Raising children in a Christ-centered environment is crucial for a Kingdom Marriage. Couples should model godly behavior, teach biblical values, and encourage their children to develop a personal relationship with Christ. This is a primary part of our own homeschooling curriculum. Currently we are also studying the kingdom of God at the child level.
Practicing Regular Family Devotions Incorporate regular family devotions into your routine. This could be through reading Bible stories, praying together, or discussing biblical lessons. Family devotions help instill a sense of spiritual unity and purpose. Examples are prayers during meals, reciting scripture, and biblical games.
Creating a Christ-Centered Home Environment Fill your home with reminders of God's presence. This could be through scripture artwork, worship music, or simply maintaining an atmosphere of love and grace. A Christ-centered home reflects the priorities of a Kingdom Marriage. This can be pictures of scriptures, gospel music events and more that creates an atmosphere for God at home
Perfecting God's Righteousness
Living Out Your Faith Pursuing God's righteousness means embodying His principles in your daily life. This includes practicing honesty, integrity, and kindness in all interactions, both within and outside the marriage.
Holding Each Other Accountable Couples should lovingly hold each other accountable to God's standards. This involves gentle correction, encouragement, and prayerful support to help each other grow in faith and righteousness.
Continual Spiritual Growth A Kingdom Marriage is a lifelong journey of spiritual growth. Couples should seek opportunities for personal and collective spiritual development, such as attending Bible studies, reading Christian literature, and participating in church activities.
In conclusion, a Kingdom Marriage is a beautiful and purposeful union that reflects God's divine plan for marriage. By seeking His kingdom first and striving to perfect His righteousness, couples can build a strong, Christ-centered foundation for their family. May we all embrace the Kingdom Marriage mindset and experience the blessings of a union rooted in faith and love.
What does a Kingdom Marriage Look like to you?
Kingdom Marriage involves actively engaging in practices that bring you and your spouse closer to God and each other. Here are some practical activities that can help:
Daily Prayer Together: Make it a habit to pray together every day. This could be in the morning, before meals, or before bed. Praying together strengthens your spiritual bond and allows you to support each other in prayer.
Bible Study: Set aside time each week to study the Bible together. You can choose a specific book, chapter, or theme to focus on. Discuss what you learn and how it applies to your lives and marriage.
Attend Church Services: Regularly attending church services together helps you stay connected to your faith community and receive spiritual nourishment. It also provides opportunities to serve and worship together.
Serve Together: Find ways to serve others as a couple. This could be volunteering at church, participating in community service projects, or supporting a cause you both care about. Serving together strengthens your bond and reflects Christ's love.
Date Nights with a Purpose: Plan regular date nights that include spiritual elements, such as discussing a devotional, watching a Christian movie, or attending a faith-based event. This helps keep your focus on God while enjoying each other's company.
Family Devotions: If you have children, incorporate regular family devotions into your routine. Read Bible stories, pray together, and discuss how to live out your faith as a family. This creates a strong spiritual foundation for your children.
Worship Together at Home: Set aside time to worship together at home through singing, playing instruments, or listening to worship music. This creates an atmosphere of praise and helps you connect with God together.
Accountability Partners: Hold each other accountable to your spiritual goals and commitments. Encourage and challenge each other to grow in your faith and live out God's principles in your marriage.
Seek Godly Counsel: Don't hesitate to seek guidance from trusted pastors, mentors, or Christian counselors when facing challenges in your marriage. They can provide valuable insights and support.
Celebrate Spiritual Milestones: Mark significant spiritual milestones in your marriage, such as anniversaries of important commitments or spiritual breakthroughs. Celebrate these moments with gratitude and joy.
By incorporating these activities into your marriage, you can cultivate a Kingdom Marriage that reflects God's love, grace, and purpose. Remember, it's an ongoing journey, and each step you take together brings you closer to the heart of God and each other.
