Heavenly Connections: Unlocking the Secrets of Kingdom Dating for Lifelong Romance
When I was in the military, I had a leader that I didn’t like. He was mean, sexist, racist and just didn’t seem to deserve the role he was in. I was frustrated but didn’t want to lose my own rank, I emailed a leader I knew would be able to help.
His advice sticks with me today. He reminded me that some people will show us how we ought not be. They will teach us things and ways we do not want to follow so when we are in our own walks, we can do differently.
Social media videos and viral stories do just that. The drama and gossip aren’t supposed to be interesting; it is supposed to be a teachable moment. You can learn a lot from other people’s mistakes and achievements.
These stories aren’t to just laugh at folks or to say “I told you so” but to teach us things. God doesn’t let us just be out here alone. He has many ways to demonstrate what we should be doing. We just have to be open to listen.
I learned from that terrible leader how not to be and vowed never to do what he did when God would promote me. Was I the best leader? I could have done better. But what I learned in that moment has helped me today realize that some people teach us how we ought not be, celebrities or not.
In today’s turbulent dating landscape, where headlines often glorify scandal over substance, this Kingdom Dating eSeries stands as a beacon of hope for those serious about pursuing relationships that honor God’s design. Recent events involving high-profile figures like Shannon Sharpe remind us that simply calling on Jesus does not guarantee that one is walking in His commands. In fact, the very public controversies currently swirling around even those trusted in spiritual leadership highlight how easily the allure of worldly patterns can compromise biblical integrity.
The Shannon Sharpe Controversy: A Stark Reminder
Shannon Sharpe, a name once synonymous with athletic achievement and respected commentary, has recently found himself at the center of a very public storm. Accusations and a widely scrutinized dating history have led many to question not only his personal choices but also the standards that many Christians claim to uphold. His involvement in questionable relationships—even while repeatedly invoking Christ’s name—illustrates a sad reality: merely proclaiming one’s faith is not enough if our actions stray from the path Jesus laid out. When individuals in the public eye deviate from biblical teachings, it casts a long shadow over what it really means to follow Jesus faithfully.
Shannon Sharpe is popular because of his success as a star football player. That has nothing to do with his unsuccessful and often scrutinized dating life, commentary, opinions. He puts those things in the public eye and the public often responds. His current controversy is only proof of how he mistakenly thought he had his own way of doing things that worked and that backfired.
Sometimes ego lets us walk a path that is bad for us. This incident might be a humbling experience, maybe not for Shannon, but for the rest of us watching that success in one area doesn’t always translate into other ones.
A Viral Lesson in Hypocrisy
Adding another layer to this discourse is a viral video from the Dear Wifey podcast that has ignited debate among church communities. In the clip, one church leader shockingly admits that she would iron her husband’s clothes to “facilitate” his rendezvous with his mistress. She even went so far as to say she was directed by God. Such statements underscore a painful but necessary truth: not everyone who calls on Jesus truly follows His commands. This isn’t just about individual failings—it's a stark reminder of the pervasive culture of compromise that can infiltrate even the highest echelons of church leadership. Integrity, accountability, and obedience are at the heart of a biblical view of relationships, and when those in positions of spiritual authority stray, they poison the well of trust within the community.
How Kingdom Dating Counters Modern Relationship Pitfalls
Unlike the fleeting allure of fame or the casual normalization of infidelity that sometimes permeates modern society, Kingdom Dating champions a countercultural approach. In the Kingdom Dating series, the emphasis is on cultivating relationships defined by mutual respect, purity, and intentional commitment—principles firmly rooted in God’s word. Couples who embark on this journey benefit from:
Clear Boundaries: From the outset, there’s an understanding that emotional and physical purity is non-negotiable. This framework not only protects individuals from hurtful decisions but also promotes a culture of honor and trust.
Accountability Structures: Kingdom Dating isn’t a solitary journey. Built-in mentorship and prayer partners encourage couples to pursue godly conduct and hold one another accountable.
Community Support: By gathering with like-minded believers who are serious about long-term marriage, couples find an environment that nurtures growth, promotes transparency, and serves as a counterbalance to the moral ambiguities of popular culture.
Real-world examples abound. Countless couples who have embraced Kingdom Dating attest that this intentional approach has fortified their relationships against the temptations and pitfalls of modern dating. They share stories of how scriptural wisdom, prayer circles, and regular discipleship have kept them aligned with God’s purposes—transforming what could have been a series of shallow, flitting relationships into a deep, lifelong covenant.

A Call to Authentic Living: A Much-Needed Revival
The controversies we witness today serve as cautionary tales. Shannon Sharpe’s actions and the viral confession by a church leader are painful reminders that there is a gap between words and deeds in our culture. True discipleship is reflected not only in claiming Jesus’ name but also in living out His commands daily. Kingdom Dating offers a radical return to biblical truth, providing a safe harbor for those who wish to align their relationships with God’s eternal plan.
Now is the time to look beyond empty declarations and embrace a love that is intentional, accountable, and anchored in divine principles. Whether you’re single and seeking a partner or committed to a marriage that needs rejuvenation, Kingdom Dating offers real-world, tangible strategies to build relationships that last. Let our choices mirror our faith, ensuring that every relationship is a testament to the transformational power of God’s word.

Scriptures to Meditate on While Kingdom Dating
Here are several key Scriptures that can serve as guiding lights for those navigating the dating world, helping to avoid common pitfalls and align relationships with biblical principles:
1. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NIV)
> “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”
Why it matters: This passage underscores the personal nature of our bodies and the importance of maintaining purity. In a dating context, it encourages individuals to set firm boundaries and to honor God by avoiding choices that compromise their integrity.
2. 2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)
> “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
Why it matters: This verse isn’t just about running from temptation—it’s about actively pursuing a life marked by goodness and surrounded by a community of fellow believers. It serves as a reminder to focus on finding partners who share a commitment to godly living, which is crucial for long-term, healthy relationships.
3. Psalm 119:9 (NIV)
> “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”
Why it matters: By grounding one’s life in Scripture, individuals can continually evaluate their choices in relationships. This verse provides a simple yet powerful principle: aligning our actions with God’s Word keeps us on the right path, particularly in a dating culture rife with mixed messages.
4. Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
> “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Why it matters: Our hearts influence every decision we make, including who we allow into our lives. Guarding your heart means being selective and intentional with your choices, which is essential for cultivating a relationship that honors God and reflects lasting love.
5. Romans 12:2 (NIV)
> “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Why it matters: This verse encourages believers to reject worldliness in favor of a mindset that seeks God’s direction. In dating, it can serve as a counterbalance to societal pressures and fleeting trends, reminding us that true transformation and lasting relationships are found in alignment with God’s will.
6. 1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)
> “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”
Why it matters: This passage is a caution against allowing worldly desires to overtake our spiritual priorities. It highlights the need for discernment in relationships, ensuring that attraction and commitment aren’t based on superficial worldly values but on a deeper, enduring love for God and for one another.
7. 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)
> “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
Why it matters: Pursuing holiness is a lifelong journey that influences every part of our lives, including how we date. This call to holiness challenges believers to emulate God’s character and hold themselves—and their relationships—to the highest moral standards.
Conclusion
By meditating on these Scriptures, individuals can gain clarity on the values that truly matter in a relationship. They serve not only as moral guidelines but also as practical tools to build a relationship that honors God, supports personal integrity, and fosters a deep, lasting connection. Remember, aligning with God’s Word isn’t about perfection, but about intentionally pursuing a path that leads to genuine, transformative love.
