Memorial Day: Remembering My Brother’s Service & Sacrifice
This Memorial Day, I pause to reflect on my brother’s life—a man who gave his service, his strength, and his heart to his country. Though he was medically retired due to Wegener’s disease, his dedication and sacrifice were no less honorable. His journey reminds me that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off; it lives in the stories, the lessons, and the lives touched by those who serve.
At our home back in 2005, my brother was trying to join the Army. The recruiter was in the home but for some reason his plans failed. I was sitting there with nothing to do, and dad threw me under the bus. The recruiter asked me what I was doing, and I told him that if he could get me up and working out, I’d join the Army.
Thanks to my brother’s work bringing a recruiter in my house, working out with me all the days up to I shipped out, and coming with family to my graduation, I became a U.S. soldier. Even though he got me in trouble with a pocket full of quarters during family time at my boot camp graduation, it motivated him to become a marine.
How ever complex our relationship, my little brother had a tremendous impact on my life, and I am forever grateful.
Grief has a way of reshaping our understanding of legacy. It urges us to look deeper, to find meaning beyond the sorrow. While Memorial Day is about remembering those we’ve lost, it’s also about honoring their impact, carrying forward their courage, and living in a way that reflects their strength.
Today, I honor my brother—not just for his time in the military, but for the imprint he left on our family and the faith that carried him through. His life was a testament to resilience, and it’s a legacy I hold close.
SGT Ronnie Michael Pulley exemplified what it meant to be a dad, a husband, a father, an uncle, a brother and a friend. It is with great honor; I am his sister and will carry his legacy forward as best I can. We didn’t always see everything the same and we had the normal sibling fights that only loved ones can, but I miss him. I salute him not only for his service to this country, but in his honor of the Pulley legacy.
Kingdom Mothers: Shaping Generations Beyond Their Own
Just as my brother’s life carries meaning beyond his years, mothers shape generations that stretch beyond their own. My mother is a prime example of this—a woman whose wisdom, faith, and sacrifices continue to influence not only her children but her grandchildren and future generations.
What lessons do Kingdom Mothers leave their children?
📖 Faith as a Foundation – Teaching children that God is their source (Proverbs 22:6). 💪 Strength Through Struggles – Showing that hardships don’t define us—how we rise does (James 1:2-3). ❤️ Unconditional Love & Grace – Modeling forgiveness and compassion, even in difficult seasons (Colossians 3:13). 🔥 Boldness in Purpose – Instilling confidence and courage to chase God-given dreams (2 Timothy 1:7).
A mother’s legacy isn’t measured just in how well she raised her kids, but in how far her influence reaches—to grandchildren, communities, and even strangers impacted by her kindness.
The Power of a Kingdom Legacy
A life of faith doesn’t fade—it multiplies. Whether in a brother who served, a mother who nurtured, or a family striving to walk in God’s purpose, legacy is built through daily choices, love, and trust in God’s plan.
As I reflect on my brother and my mother, I realize that true legacy isn’t about titles or achievements—it’s about love, faith, and the impact left behind.
This Memorial Day, let’s remember those who served, honor the mothers who shaped us, and commit to carrying forward a legacy of purpose and faith.

In 2010, I faced one of the darkest moments of my life. After years of infertility, we lost our child—a blessing we had prayed for. The grief was overwhelming, and I felt like I had no way forward. But through God’s strength, I broke fear and found hope again. Breaking Fear is the story of resilience, faith, and healing, and I want to share it with those who help us give back to my sister in law.
