Three years ago, I took over my children’s education due to a lot of issues in the school system. Finding out how much it took to educate children was eye opening to much needed resources that kids could use today. For family empowerment, we must address some of the resources out there for families that want to have a good education for their kids and beyond.
When it comes to educational and literacy resources, the U.S. offers a wide array of opportunities designed to cater to diverse needs and aspirations. Whether you're navigating K-12, collegiate education, or seeking professional training and certifications, there’s something for everyone.
Education and Literacy Rates
The United States boasts a literacy rate of around 99% and an education attainment rate where about 90% of adults have completed high school. These stats highlight a solid foundation for continuous learning and development.
According to recent data, 54% of U.S. adults have a literacy level below the 6th-grade level1. This means that more than half of the adult population struggles with reading and comprehension skills typically expected of a 6th grader1.

Public, Private, and Homeschooling Resources
Public Education: Public schools offer K-12 education funded by the government, providing free access to comprehensive curricula and extracurricular activities. They often work in conjunction with local communities and state organizations to support student development.
Private Education: Private schools, though not government-funded, provide tailored education programs that can include religious instruction, specialized curriculums, and smaller class sizes. They offer a range of paid educational resources and advanced placement programs.
Homeschooling: Homeschooling has gained popularity, allowing parents to curate their children’s education based on personal values, learning styles, and needs. Various homeschooling networks and resources are available both locally and nationally, offering curriculum guides, social activities, and educational support.

Free, Paid, Apprenticeship, Internship, and Entrepreneurial Opportunities
Free Resources: Websites like edX and MIT OpenCourseWare provide access to high-quality education at no cost.
Paid Programs: Universities and private institutions offer degree and certificate programs that, while requiring tuition, provide accredited education and recognized qualifications.
