How I Use Data to Make Better Parenting Decisions: Modern Parenting Data Update
Data can be used to instigate trouble, create chaos, or disseminate information. I assured you there wouldn't be much math at Iconic. Nevertheless, we provide data to motivate you on your path to a flourishing social empire. Data points are designed to enhance your understanding of the world. Pew Research is our preferred research institution, and they have uncovered some significant insights on contemporary American parenting.
I use data to help reinforce parenting skills and you can too.
Parenting in today’s world is both rewarding and challenging. As parents, we strive to make informed decisions that positively impact our children’s lives. Here are some essential data points and what you can do with them:
Mental Health Concerns: According to a recent Pew Research Center survey1, mental health tops the list of parental worries. As a parent, stay attuned to your child’s emotional well-being. Encourage open communication, seek professional help if needed, and reduce stigma around mental health.
Bullying Awareness: About 35% of parents worry about their children being bullied. Educate your child about empathy, kindness, and assertiveness. Teach them how to handle bullying situations and build resilience.
Physical Safety: While mental health concerns dominate, don’t overlook physical safety. Discuss safety rules, stranger danger, and emergency procedures with your child. Regularly check safety measures at home and in public spaces.
Financial Independence: Most parents prioritize financial independence for their children. Teach financial literacy early saving, budgeting, and understanding money. Encourage entrepreneurial skills and work ethic.
Career Satisfaction: Parents want their children to have fulfilling careers. Nurture their interests, expose them to various fields, and emphasize the importance of passion and purpose.
College Education: While not everyone needs a college degree, it’s still a common aspiration. Explore different educational paths—college, vocational training, or apprenticeships—and support your child’s unique journey.
Gentle Parenting: Parenting trends are evolving. Gentle parenting emphasizes empathy, positive discipline, and respectful communication. Practice active listening, set clear boundaries, and model kindness.
Parental Authority: Striking a balance between authority and empathy matters. Understand when to guide and when to empower your child. Adapt your parenting style based on their needs.
Remember, parenting isn’t one-size-fits-all. Use these data points as a starting point, but tailor your approach to your child’s personality, strengths, and challenges. Trust your instincts, seek support, and cherish the beautiful journey of parenthood! 🌟

In June, I became ill and visited the emergency room. CT scans revealed that I had been battling a bacterial infection for two weeks, leading to a treatment with one antibiotic followed by two additional ones. This resulted in a C. diff infection, a bacterium that proliferates due to excessive antibiotic use, causing inflammation in my colon throughout this ordeal.
As medical expenses accumulate, I am striving to sustain Iconic.

Let’s explore how the changes in parenting correlate with the data from Pew Research:
Mental Health Concerns: Like mentioned above, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey, mental health tops the list of parental worries. Four-in-ten U.S. parents with children under 18 are extremely or very worried that their children might struggle with anxiety or depression at some point. This concern has intensified due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing youth mental health crisis1. Interestingly, mothers are more likely than fathers to worry about most of these things. If you or someone you know are having a mental health crisis, please reach out to professionals that can help at 988.
Parental Aspirations: When envisioning their children’s future, parents prioritize financial independence and career satisfaction. Roughly nine-in-ten parents say it’s extremely or very important that their children be financially independent when they are adults, and the same share say it’s equally important that their children have jobs or careers they enjoy. About four-in-ten parents emphasize the importance of their children earning a college degree1. Notably, there are sharp differences by race and ethnicity regarding the importance parents place on their children graduating from traditional college. Don’t limit your child’s future by having them only look at paths you are interested in, instead, show them numerous options and provide guidance in areas they feel most passionate in.
Parenting Challenges: Most parents (62%) say being a parent has been at least somewhat harder than they expected. This sentiment is especially true for mothers, with 30% of them saying it’s been a lot harder than expected (compared to 20% of fathers). Parenthood remains a unique and challenging journey1. This means it is very important to do your research, as we did for this data today, get a community like here at Iconic that prioritizes positive family tips and advice, and reach out to coaching services before problems become worse. Parenting is hard but we have a community of individuals with adult children, degrees in education, psychology and lots of lived experiences that can help. Do not try to go at all of this alone.
In summary, parenting trends reflect changing family dynamics, economic circumstances, and societal shifts. These data points provide valuable insights into the modern parenting landscape!
Iconic gives you data to help you navigate parenting and marriage in a positive and healthy manner. We can all have our Iconic families when we grow this community together.
