I Got the Power: How I Find Balance in Kingdom Motherhood Responsibilities
I was thinking of the women in my life that have passed on yesterday. I also started to think about my mother. One common theme was that these women sacrificed so much for God, their marriages, and their families. I love them a lot, but a consistent question kept me up: What could they have done differently to help themselves against their illnesses, disabilities, and more?
I know. We moms do a lot. Even with dad’s help, we tend to push ourselves above and beyond as this is our most sacred duty, to raise the next generation. But how many of us are sacrificing so much that we are losing our mental, spiritual and physical selves?
I used to be small and fit in the U.S. Army. With all the demands on a new soldier, I still kept up doing the things I was ordered to do. After I left, my body felt the toll of all the running, sleepless nights, and demands of two tours overseas.
I was very good at meeting the mission for the Army, in my own eyes, but I started to see as I was about to get out that I stopped caring about me. I had gone through a miscarriage, the demands of the military were taking a toll, then I had a baby on the way.
My own life took a back seat a lot. Even as a kid, I wanted to please my parents so doing the things asked of me, school and then work, I taught myself to put me last. That showed up in the relationships I chose, the weight I’ve gained, and the scars I carry. Something had to change.
Now, as I approach my 40th birthday this summer, I learned that I have some control over my own mind, body and soul. I gave up soda, started back in my Bible like I should and started caring about my health.
I am worth it. Ladies so are you.
Balancing self-care and sacrifice in Kingdom Motherhood is a delicate dance. As mothers, we are called to serve our families with love and devotion, but that doesn’t mean neglecting ourselves in the process. In fact, self-care is a form of stewardship—caring for the vessel God has given us so we can continue to pour into others.
You got the Power. That power comes from within to do what God called you to do.
The Call to Sacrifice
Motherhood is inherently sacrificial. From sleepless nights to endless demands, moms give of themselves daily. In Kingdom Motherhood, this sacrifice is seen as an act of worship—serving our families as unto the Lord. However, sacrifice without renewal leads to burnout. If we constantly pour out without refilling, we risk exhaustion, resentment, and even losing sight of the joy in our calling.
The Necessity of Self-Care
Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s soul care. It’s about ensuring that we are spiritually, emotionally, and physically well so we can continue to serve effectively. Jesus Himself took time away to pray and rest—He modeled the importance of stepping back to recharge. Moms need to do the same. Whether it’s quiet time with God, a walk in nature, or simply a moment to breathe, these small acts of self-care allow us to show up fully for our families.
Finding the Balance
Prioritize Time with God – Spiritual renewal is the foundation of self-care. Spending time in prayer and scripture strengthens us for the journey.
Set Boundaries – Saying “no” to unnecessary commitments allows space for rest and reflection.
Embrace Help – Accepting support from family, friends, or church community is not a sign of weakness but wisdom.
Practice Grace – Perfection is not the goal. Allow yourself grace in the messy moments.
Celebrate Small Wins – Acknowledge the little victories in both motherhood and self-care.
Kingdom Motherhood is about serving from a place of abundance, not depletion. When we care for ourselves, we are better equipped to love, nurture, and guide our children in the way of the Lord. What are some ways you’ve found balance in your own journey?

In 2010, I faced one of the darkest moments of my life. After years of infertility, we lost our child—a blessing we had prayed for. The grief was overwhelming, and I felt like I had no way forward. But through God’s strength, I broke fear and found hope again. Breaking Fear is the story of resilience, faith, and healing, and I want to share it with those who help us give back to my mother in this season.

Bible Verses to Help You with Self-Care
God not only has roles for us, but He also cares for us, His daughters. In His Word, are daily reminders of how we can fulfil our roles without slowing killing ourselves. The Bible offers wisdom and encouragement for moms to prioritize self-care while fulfilling their calling. Here are some scriptures that highlight rest, renewal, and God's care for us:
Rest and Renewal
Matthew 11:28 – "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Mark 6:31 – "Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’"
Exodus 20:8 – "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy."
God’s Care for You
Psalm 139:14 – "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Psalm 46:1 – "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Strength for the Journey
Isaiah 40:31 – "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles..."
Philippians 4:13 – "I can do all things through him who strengthens me."
2 Corinthians 12:9 – "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
These verses remind moms that self-care is not selfish—it’s biblical. Taking time to rest, renew, and lean on God’s strength allows you to serve your family from a place of abundance rather than exhaustion.
