I have Strategies for Nurturing Mental Health in Your Marriage: A New App that Can Help
In 2013, I was diagnosed with PTSD, Major Depression and Anxiety. I had been to Operation Iraqi Freedom and the toll of war a was keeping me up at night. The Veterans Administration deemed my insomnia was linked to mental disorders and considered me disabled.
It was a blow that I had not seen coming when all I wanted was assistance going to bed at night.
Americans, like me, are currently facing numerous mental stressors, including the potential for war, rising inflation, upcoming election and even concerns. These pressures from all directions are impacting our mental health significantly. While we talk much about other things bothering us, our mental health has to take priority for a better tomorrow.
Disclaimer: As previously stated on this app, if you're experiencing difficulties, please make sure to reach out. The new National Suicide and Crisis Hotline is 988, and help is available immediately.
Importantly, as I was on Twitter, I came across this Tweet by former Libertarian VP Candidate Spike Cohen that hit hard. It focuses on someone he knew that was going through his own mental health struggles that decided to step up in his own way to help others.
As someone with my own mental health struggles, this conversation about mental health struck a chord in me.
This was his post about his friend’s new app WhiteFlag.
Spike Cohen on X: "This man's name is Jonny McCoy, and what happened to him is impacting the lives of millions. In 2009, Jonny was out with a friend in Columbia SC where he was working as a corporate lawyer, when police officers began to arrest his friend. Police claimed that his friend was… https://t.co/n7JWzKm3Nd" / X (twitter.com)
Please go to the X post to read the full story.
In summary, a man named McCoy decided to deal with a troubling situation and found his own new application to help others. It is so important that we share these kinds of stories in order to show people not only can you survive trauma, but you can also help others deal with is as well.
Yes, Iconic is in the marriage and family space where mental health is paramount.
The resources for families to get the help they need will never go away and this story has help many.
Iconic Cares: Iconic Partners with The Felecia Killings Foundation for a Heartwarming Holiday Prolife Campaign in ATL
The Iconic/CCM Hurricane Response & Scholarship Awards:
Holiday Prolife Campaign
The Holiday Prolife Campaign, spearheaded by The Felecia Killings Foundation by
Coach Felecia Killings is a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting families during the holiday season. This campaign focuses on providing resources, education, and support to families, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive. By partnering with this campaign, Iconic is excited to extend our reach and impact even more families.
This year, we are highlighting "First Care Women's Clinic," which has been in the area since 1985. They are a Christian Evangelical non-profit organization.
Suddenly, communities in Atlanta were hit by Helene’s devastating winds and rain causing flooding, power outages and more across this area of GA. Then an explosion happened at the Biolabs in Conyers. A lot has happened over the weekend. Currently, Georgia’s ban on abortion after 6 weeks have been lifted meaning up to 22-weeks now is the cut-off for abortion services. This is why our work at Iconic with the CCM is so important.
Since we were working to help moms already, we decided to add especial emphasis on finishing this campaign because moms in this area now need the additional support. We also want to help give away FREE scholarships to moms in the area to train as leaders in their respective careers.
We at Iconic are stepping up to contribute books and to push the campaign to our audience because we believe in activating to help families especially during national disaster recovery.

4 Mental Health Strategies I have for My Iconic Marriage
Marriage doesn’t make mental health issues going away. WhiteFlag CEO and Founder Jonny McCoy probably would be first to tell you.
Here are strategies to help you including his work on the new anonymous mental health app that is changing the game:
Admit You have a Problem
The First step to dealing with a mental health crisis is admitting you have a problem. Even if you don’t know exactly what that problem is, admitting something isn’t right with you, helps you get better. That could mean being honest about destructive or irregular habits even if you think you are justified at the time.
Get Help
Substance abuse, angry outburst and violence doesn’t solve your mental health issues. When mental health episodes interrupt a rather normal routine life, seek out help. There are millions of people paid to make sure you get the help you need. If you don’t trust orgs like the Veterans Administration to help, reach out to other like the 988 or people over at Jonny McCoy’s X page, church leaders, community organizations or more. If you want to take part in our Iconic Coaching Services, we are ready to help assist you. For Consultation, please send us a private message.
Include Your Spouse
Your spouse knows you better than most and is there through this with you. Use them as a resource and support for your situation. If you think you are in danger, get to a safe place. But if your problems have nothing to do with them, remember they are a help to you. Be understanding, forgiving, gracious to those in your life who have the courage to tell you something is wrong and ask what to do next.
Get Educated
You may assume that your excessive sleepiness and irritability might be your job, but it could be depression. Those recurring nightmares that keep you up could be anxiety or PTSD. The grief of a passing loved one is normal but not going through the stages or being stuck might not be. Read blog posts, newsletters, watch videos and read books to educate yourself and become aware of mental illness.
Never try to self-diagnose.
There are professionals trained to identify and treat mental health issues and episodes. If you feel they aren’t doing a good job, being your own advocate and fight for your rights to be seen and heard. Seek out a second or third opinion. Ask for financial assistance if you don’t have insurance or know how to pay.
