I Support Survivors: Raising Awareness and Support Survivors of DV
I had an ex that was emotionally abusive and to make it worse, he was my boss. To most people, he was just a leader doing his job. To me, he was an ex-boyfriend using his position in the military to belittle me, scream at me and treated me like trash.
I was scared of losing my own rank, I was ashamed of breaking military protocol to date someone I thought liked me, and I was alone in trying to find love and be abused by someone I cared about and thought loved me.
Thank the Lord, I was brave enough one day to stand up to him and break free. Now, I have been in a loving relationship for 15 years with a man who would never harm me and never has. It is eye-opening how much you can survive when you find true love and healing.
Survivors, know that your story is your own. Never is your abuse your fault. We at Iconic Marriage stand firm in stopping abuse, whomever it is from and wherever it is.

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects millions of people across the globe, regardless of gender, age, or background. It can cross job titles, careers and racial backgrounds. It is usually disabling and humiliating to those who realize what is happening to them and hard to get free. It's crucial to raise awareness about this issue and support survivors in their journey to healing and safety. In this blog post, we'll explore the work of various local, state, and national groups dedicated to helping survivors, as well as steps survivors can take to find safety and healing.
Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence (IPV), includes physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse. It can also be financial where they use money as a tool to control you and keep you away from loved ones and friends. Sadly, it can happen to anyone, and its impact can be devastating. Survivors often face challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and a sense of isolation.
Yes, men and teenagers in relationships can also experience this type of abuse.
National Groups and Initiatives
National Domestic Violence Hotline: This organization provides 24/7 support through phone, chat, and text services. They offer resources, safety planning, and emotional support to survivors across the United States1.
National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV): NCADV works to support survivors, hold offenders accountable, and advocate for policy changes to end domestic violence2.
Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP): DVAP focuses on raising awareness about domestic violence and promoting prevention and intervention strategies3.
State and Local Groups
State Coalitions: Each state has a coalition dedicated to ending domestic violence4. These coalitions connect local service providers, offer training, and advocate for survivors5. For example, the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence and the Texas Council on Family Violence are two such coalitions5.
Local Shelters and Support Groups: Many local organizations provide safe housing, counseling, legal assistance, and support groups for survivors. For instance, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence in California and YWCA in various states offer these services6.
Steps for Survivors to Find Safety and Healing
Reach Out for Help: Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit their website for resources and support1.
Create a Safety Plan: Develop a plan to leave an abusive situation safely. This may include identifying safe places to go, packing essential items, and having a trusted person to contact.
Seek Legal Assistance: Many local organizations offer legal support to help survivors obtain restraining orders, navigate custody issues, and protect their rights.
Join Support Groups: Connecting with others who have experienced similar situations can provide emotional support and validation. Groups like SAVE offer confidential support groups for survivors7.
Access Counseling and Therapy: Professional counseling can help survivors process trauma, build resilience, and develop coping strategies.
Educate Yourself: Learning about domestic violence and its dynamics can empower survivors to recognize patterns of abuse and take steps to protect themselves.
Conclusion
Domestic violence is a serious issue that requires collective effort to address. By raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for change, we can work towards a world where everyone feels safe and respected. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, reach out for help and take steps towards healing and safety.
