Kingdom Marriages: A Light in a Dark World
Our New Iconic eSeries Kingdom Marriages | Emphasizing Matthew 6:33 and Fostering Love in Your Marriage
Good afternoon, Icons,
We are back with our Iconic eSeries, “Kingdom Marriages” and hope that this will bless you in your union.
We thank all of you who have supported the Pulley family during this time of mourning and ask that you continue to keep us in prayer.
If you would love to send a donation to support my mother as she goes through the grieving process losing a husband, son, and niece, nephew, and sister, feel free to use the link below. Remember rewards are always available.
Our goal is $10k to help her with whatever she needs at this time.
It is with celebrations and love, that I continue the work of Iconic Marriages in the memory of my father Clarence Pulley Jr, Brother Ronnie Pulley and Aunt Mary Harvin, who all went on to be with the Lord. It is not a time of great sadness because we know where they are as we all miss them deeply. We thank God for the time we had with each one of them, sharing love, our lives, and the memories we hold dear and, we do the will of God so we can see them all again one day.
Rest in Peace to another dear loved one, Daryl Medlin, my cousin. You are now with the Lord and your father David. May your soul rest.
I ask you Icons, that you, pray my strength in the Lord.
Kingdom Marriages: A Light in a Dark World
What I remember most about my parents’ marriage is how I wanted the same for myself. They emulated the type of love, ups and downs, that exemplified a healthy relationship in my eyes as a young girl, that I wanted that type of love for myself.
My father loved my mom, that I will forever know. And she was his partner. They traveled the world together, laughed, cried and loved together. She was with him in his last moments. She was with him since she was 17 as they went to her high school prom.
Marriage to me was normalized growing up, problems and successes together. I saw church leaders married. I saw friends of my parents married.
Yet, these days all I see is talks about how marriage is terrible, and more people should opt out. I challenge that notion with my platform Iconic Marriages in which I bring tips, tools and strategies for healthy iconic relationships through practical tools, books, our online eCourse and more.
I won’t lie to you though.
Marriage is not easy. In fact, Kingdom Marriage requires a lot from us to do the Will of God in our own lives. But, I believe in you. I believe that you and your spouse can have the type of marriage tied to something eternal, that will sustain you and your legacy.
Introduction: Radiating God’s Light Through Marriage In a world often shrouded in confusion, division, and brokenness, a Kingdom Marriage serves as a lighthouse—a radiant symbol of hope, truth, and God’s love. Rooted in Biblical principles, a Kingdom Marriage not only strengthens the bond between husband and wife but also shines as an example for others to see what is possible through Christ.
Jesus declared, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14 ESV). This is the calling of a Kingdom-minded marriage—to illuminate the way for others while reflecting God’s glory. Couples who prioritize God’s Kingdom in their union become a powerful testimony to His transformative love in a culture that often dismisses the sanctity and purpose of marriage.
How Kingdom Marriages Stand Out Unlike marriages centered on worldly ideals, Kingdom Marriages are distinguished by their alignment with eternal principles. Here are key ways they shine light into a dark world:
Christ-Centered Love A Kingdom Marriage thrives on sacrificial love modeled after Christ’s relationship with the Church (Ephesians 5:25-27). This unconditional love stands in stark contrast to a society where love is often conditional or self-serving.
Practical Example: A husband chooses to put his wife’s needs before his own, even in small daily decisions. A wife, in turn, respects and uplifts her husband, reflecting mutual humility and grace.
Purpose Over Pleasure Kingdom Marriages are purpose-driven, focused on advancing God’s work, rather than just pursuing personal happiness.
Practical Example: A couple mentors younger couples in the church, teaching them how to build Christ-centered relationships. Their marriage becomes a ministry that impacts the lives of others.
Unity in Diversity In a culture divided by differences, Kingdom Marriages model unity through shared faith and goals. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28 ESV).
Practical Example: A couple from different cultural backgrounds embraces their diversity as an opportunity to honor God by learning from each other and creating a harmonious home that reflects His Kingdom.
Resilience Through Trials When faced with challenges, Kingdom Marriages rely on God’s strength rather than their own. Their faith becomes a source of inspiration for others going through difficulties. “We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair” (2 Corinthians 4:8 NIV).
Practical Example: A couple facing financial struggles turns to prayer and Biblical stewardship principles, remaining united and trusting in God’s provision.
Living Counter to Culture A Kingdom Marriage rejects societal pressures and norms that contradict God’s Word. Instead, it prioritizes Biblical values, even when they’re unpopular or misunderstood.
Practical Example: While many in their community prioritize material success, a couple in a Kingdom Marriage chooses to serve in missions and dedicate their resources to furthering God’s work.
A Christian Dilemma
But. Some Christians are turning people away from Christ and His message. People are seeing in some of us, something they do not want. And that is disappointing. Christians often talk well enough, but the walk does not match up.
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." Gandhi
Gandhi, while not perfect himself, said out loud what many people think about Christians today. There is a sentiment, from many of our actions, that we aren’t to be liked. And that’s the trouble with religiosity. We lost the message and the demonstrations of our leader, Christ Jesus and thus are losing people through acts that sound biblical but ultimate aren’t what He preached.
Examples abound like current trends against empathy being preached.
This trend away from Christ’s messages of the Kingdom is seeping into ideas about marriage and family, as folks are seeing Christians acting no different than the world we admonish. I call in this newsletter for us to do better. While some will come saying they are Christian still and acting against scripture, the rest of us will do what is right in the will of God using scripture and the conviction of the Holy Spirit to hold us to account.
Remember Christ himself said that everyone calling on Him, He won’t know them.
I Never Knew You Mattew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
It is not just good for us to talk and preach about Christ but to demonstrate His love, kindness, and truth through our character and our actions. We must live out our faith indeed as well as in our words. People need to see the light in us shine daily. In our marriages, we can show what a healthy marriage is by ours actually being healthy.
The Ripple Effect of a Kingdom Marriage A Kingdom Marriage doesn’t just bless the couple—it has a profound impact on others:
In the Family: Children raised in Kingdom homes learn empathy, faith, and integrity, becoming future leaders who carry God’s light forward.
In the Community: Neighbors, friends, and church members are inspired by the joy and stability found in a Christ-centered union.
In the World: Such marriages challenge societal norms, offering a compelling alternative to broken relationships and misplaced priorities.
Scriptures to Encourage and Equip
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16 ESV).
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2 ESV).
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor” (Romans 12:10 ESV).
Conclusion: Be the Light In a world desperate for hope, Kingdom Marriages stand as radiant beacons, pointing others toward the One who brings true peace and joy. By seeking first the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), couples can build a marriage that not only survives the storms of life but also inspires others to find the light of Christ.
Let us embrace this calling and allow God to use our marriages for His glory. Together, we can transform our homes, communities, and even the world—one marriage at a time.
May your marriage shine brightly and glorify His name!
