Our Iconic Kingdom Marriages eSeries | Resurrection Season Theme: Breaking Fear Scripture 2 Timothy 1: 7
Good afternoon, Iconic audience family,
We are back with a new season of Resurrection. It is our Easter Season, and we are celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a new fundraiser and theme.
This year’s theme is Breaking Fear pulled from the scripture in 2 Timothy 1: 7 “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but he has given us power, love and sound mind (self-control). With this theme, our new Easter Fundraiser is here where we are raising $2500 for this Holy Month to give away 100 copies of our book Breaking Fear to local GA churches and orgs to empower them.

Kingdom Marriages and Overcoming Fear: A Scriptural Journey
I had to do it.
I had to be there at my younger brother’s funeral. I tried as I might to debate the issue in my head because we had just laid my dad to rest. My family didn’t have much money to go to Baltimore again for another such event, and yet, my husband had an idea, I could go alone.
The thought sent trembles down my spine!
Yes, I flew alone before but that was 17 years ago in a different sorta lifetime where I was brave and a soldier. Now much older, closer to my kids and haven’t really been traveled through flight, fear struck me once again.
But I had to be there. I was the eldest daughter and his oldest sister. He needed me.
My brother was gone. His widow and kids at the church, my mother also, my remaining four siblings and I came to speak at his service. The church filled with family, friends, and people we haven’t seen in years all to represent him.
I was there to say goodbye to my brother, my baby, until we meet again. Go he had to because he suffered through kidney failure. His rest was now complete because I faced my fears and was able to face what I had to that day.
Fear can silently creep into relationships, even in the most faith-filled Kingdom marriages. It disguises itself as doubt, insecurity, and the fear of failure, slowly eroding trust and intimacy. Yet, Scripture reminds us that fear is not from God:
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7, ESV)
The Impact of Fear in Marriages
In Kingdom marriages, fear might manifest in various ways:
Fear of vulnerability: A spouse may worry about sharing their deepest thoughts and feelings, fearing judgment or rejection.
Fear of the future: Financial pressures or uncertainty about life changes can weigh heavily on both partners.
Fear of inadequacy: One might feel they're not living up to the standards of a “Kingdom spouse,” questioning their worth or ability to fulfill God’s purpose in the marriage.
For example, consider a couple where the husband fears he cannot provide adequately for his family. This fear leads to withdrawal, creating emotional distance between him and his wife. Meanwhile, the wife might fear abandonment, interpreting his silence as disinterest in the marriage. These fears, unchecked, can become barriers to unity.
The Kingdom Mindset: A Shield Against Fear
The Kingdom mindset transforms fear into faith. It involves recognizing God’s sovereignty over marriage and trusting His plan, even in uncertainty. Here’s how adopting this mindset can help couples combat fear:
Prayer and Surrender:
Real-life example: A couple facing financial challenges regularly prays together, asking God for provision and guidance. This act of surrender brings them closer and shifts their focus from worry to trust.
Scripture: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6, ESV)
Encouraging One Another:
Real-life example: A wife reassures her husband that his worth isn’t tied to his income but to his character and heart for the Lord. Her encouragement silences his fears.
Scripture: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11, ESV)
Understanding Purpose:
Real-life example: A husband and wife view their marriage as a ministry, focusing on how they can serve God together. This perspective reframes their challenges as opportunities to glorify God.
Scripture: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33, ESV)
Rejecting Lies and Embracing Truth:
Real-life example: A couple confronts their fears with declarations of God’s promises, reminding themselves that they are equipped and empowered for their calling.
Scripture: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18, ESV)
Final Thoughts
Kingdom marriages are not immune to the challenges of fear, but they are fortified by faith. When couples embrace God’s promises, pray fervently, and encourage one another, fear loses its grip. Through a Kingdom mindset, love becomes the foundation, and faith becomes the guiding light.
In the words of Psalm 34:4, “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Let Kingdom couples seek the Lord, knowing He will deliver them from the fears that threaten to divide. Together, they can move forward in purpose, building a marriage that glorifies Him and inspires others.
What Makes Fear So Powerful
Fear can seep into even the strongest marriages because vulnerability and intimacy often expose deep-seated insecurities or unresolved issues. Here are some key reasons why fear might infiltrate a close marriage:
1. Past Experiences
Impact: Trauma, abandonment, or betrayal from previous relationships can leave scars that resurface in a marriage, even unintentionally.
Example: One partner might fear being hurt or rejected again, leading to defensiveness or emotional withdrawal.
2. Uncertainty About the Future
Impact: Financial stress, career changes, health challenges, or parenting concerns can create fear around what lies ahead.
Example: A couple facing unemployment might worry about their ability to maintain stability, creating tension or blame in the relationship.
3. Insecurity or Low Self-Worth
Impact: Fears of inadequacy or failure to meet a spouse's expectations can lead to self-doubt.
Example: A spouse might worry they aren't “good enough” emotionally, spiritually, or physically for their partner, which can hinder closeness.
4. Fear of Change
Impact: When marriages evolve—through moves, new jobs, or becoming parents—fear of losing the current dynamic can arise.
Example: A couple may fear that new responsibilities could detract from their quality time or intimacy.
5. Miscommunication or Assumptions
Impact: Fear often grows in silence. Without open communication, misunderstandings or unvoiced concerns can create emotional distance.
Example: A spouse might misinterpret their partner's silence as anger or dissatisfaction, leading to fear of conflict.
How the Kingdom Mindset Addresses Fear
Couples rooted in a Kingdom mindset can overcome these challenges by leaning on biblical principles:
Faith in God’s Sovereignty: Trusting that God is in control can alleviate fears about the future (Psalm 46:10).
Unity Through Prayer: Praying together strengthens the bond between spouses and aligns their hearts with God’s will (Matthew 18:20).
Encouraging Love and Transparency: Open communication and biblical encouragement can dispel insecurities and foster intimacy (Ephesians 4:29).
When fear threatens a close marriage, turning to Scripture and embracing faith-filled practices can be transformative. “Perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18), and in a Kingdom marriage, love is not just a bond between two people—it’s rooted in God’s eternal love for His children.
