Kingdom Marriages: Confronting Fear and Wisdom’s Call
Our Iconic Kingdom Marriages eSeries | Choosing Wisdom over Foolishness Scripture Proverbs 1: 7
Good afternoon, Iconic audience family,
We are back with a new season of Resurrection. It is our Easter Season, and we are celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a new fundraiser and theme.
This year’s theme is Breaking Fear pulled from the scripture in 2 Timothy 1: 7 “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but he has given us power, love and sound mind (self-control). With this theme, our new Easter Fundraiser is here where we are raising $2500 for this Holy Month to give away 100 copies of our book Breaking Fear to local GA churches and orgs to empower them.
When you donate, proceeds also go toward my Conscious Conservative Movements Speaker Training where I will learn to take the powerful Iconic Marriage platform on the road to individuals and couples nationwide. You also support more on my Crohn’s disease healing journey and help us build the Iconic platform.
Donate today and get our Iconic Formula for Marriage Success eBook for donations of $25 or print for $50. For $100, you get the online course of the same name.
Now let’s get into today’s lesson:
Kingdom Marriages: Confronting Fear and Wisdom’s Call
Today, I have to go get an MRI for my brain. For more than a decade, I have had migraines and nothing I have done so far has stopped them. I’ve tried different medicines, therapy, yoga and yet they still persist.
This new doctor is hopeful we can figure it out.
I was afraid when my husband and I lost our child in 2010. I was afraid to fly alone to my brother’s funeral. I was afraid of homeschooling our kids and whether they would still receive and adequate education.
But with faith in God and the helpful conversations with my husband, fear did not take up too much space in my head. Whatever medical issues we face, and there are plenty, we believe in trusting in God, working with our medical doctors, and leaning on each other during tough times.
Fear is a silent enemy in Kingdom marriages, capable of sowing seeds of foolishness that threaten the foundation of our families. Scripture warns us about the dangers of fear and folly: “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe” (Proverbs 29:25, ESV). When fear reigns, wisdom takes a backseat, opening the door for actions and decisions that can erode trust, unity, and purpose.
Today is April Fool’s Day but we have no fools here. We rebuke foolishness over your life and pray that you break fear to win today. We ask God to protect you and yours and pray for a continued prosperous 2025 and Easter Season.
How Fear Breeds Foolishness
Fear infiltrates marriages in subtle ways, leading to foolish behaviors that can harm relationships. Here are some examples:
Impulse Over Faith:
Fear prompts rash decisions, such as choosing temporary solutions over God’s eternal promises. For instance, a husband might overwork out of fear of financial insecurity, neglecting his family in the process.
Scripture reminds us: “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7, ESV).
Silence Over Communication:
Fear of conflict can lead to avoidance, creating misunderstandings or assumptions. A wife might choose silence over addressing an issue, allowing resentment to build.
Wisdom calls for transparency: “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25, ESV).
Worldly Solutions Over Kingdom Wisdom:
Fear can drive couples to rely on human advice instead of seeking God’s guidance. For example, choosing societal norms over biblical principles for resolving disputes.
Scripture emphasizes the power of God’s wisdom: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6, ESV).
Proverbs 1:7 - "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Breaking the Chains of Fear
To stop fear from leading to foolishness, Kingdom couples must be proactive in their faith and intentional in their actions. Here’s how:
Root Your Marriage in God’s Word:
Build your foundation on Scripture, aligning decisions with God’s promises and commands.
Practical Application: Regularly study passages like Proverbs 3:5–6 together, reminding yourselves to trust in God’s path.
Encourage Open Dialogue:
Create an environment of love and transparency where fears and concerns can be openly discussed.
Practical Application: Set aside weekly time for “heart talks,” where you share your thoughts without fear of judgment.
Pray Boldly and Together:
Break the hold of fear through prayer, inviting God’s peace and wisdom into your marriage.
Practical Application: Pray aloud together, using Scripture like 2 Timothy 1:7 as a declaration of faith.
Walk in Wisdom, Not Foolishness:
Seek Kingdom-minded counsel and reject worldly shortcuts that compromise your values.
Practical Application: When facing major decisions, ask yourselves, “Does this glorify God and strengthen our covenant?”
A Call to Rise in Faith
Kingdom marriages are built not on perfection but on God’s grace. When fear tries to creep in, couples must be vigilant in faith and wisdom, recognizing the enemy’s tactics. Let us remember the words of James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” Wisdom is the antidote to foolishness, and faith is the cure for fear.
As Kingdom couples, let us rise in faith, love, and wisdom, breaking the chains of fear and foolishness that threaten our families. Together, we can glorify God in our marriages and leave a lasting legacy of His goodness.
God’s Protection from Foolishness
Being citizens of God’s Kingdom comes with certain provisions especially over your Kingdom Marriages. God, in fact, offers us protection from foolishness through His Word, His Spirit, and His wisdom, which guide us toward sound decision-making and righteous living. You as a child of the Kingdom have the infilling of God the Holy Spirit to assist you in your life. Use Him.
Here are ways He shields us from folly:
1. Guidance Through Scripture
The Bible serves as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). It provides timeless wisdom and principles to help us avoid poor choices.
Example: Proverbs is filled with advice to guard against foolishness, such as “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice” (Proverbs 12:15).
2. The Holy Spirit's Conviction
God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide, correct, and convict us when we stray (John 16:13). The Spirit acts as an inner compass, helping us discern right from wrong.
Example: When we're tempted to act impulsively, the Spirit may stir feelings of unease, urging us to pause and seek God’s counsel.
3. Godly Counsel
God often speaks to us through the wisdom of others. Surrounding ourselves with Kingdom-minded mentors and friends helps us navigate challenges wisely (Proverbs 15:22).
Example: A trusted pastor or friend might offer perspective that steers us away from a reckless decision.
4. The Power of Prayer
Prayer allows us to seek God’s guidance and protection against folly. When we surrender our plans to Him, He directs our steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Example: A couple uncertain about a major decision prays together, and God provides clarity and peace, helping them avoid mistakes.
5. Lessons Through Grace
Even when we make foolish decisions, God’s grace protects us from the full consequences of our actions and teaches us valuable lessons for the future.
Example: A financial mistake might strain a marriage, but God uses the experience to deepen trust and reliance on Him.
God’s protection from foolishness requires our active participation—studying His Word, seeking His Spirit, and living in obedience. As James 1:5 reminds us: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” He faithfully equips us to walk in wisdom and avoid the snares of folly.
