Kingdom Motherhood Through Trying Times: Embracing Positive Actions
It hit me.
After my sister called us to tell us dad died, I would face the next hardest challenge; telling our son his grandpa died.
It was so hard and heartbreaking to tell both children that their grandfather was gone. And yet, my husband and I had to tell them. On his big bear pillow his grandparents had, laid our 13 years old.
We went in his room together. His questions about dad’s pacemaker, why he couldn’t get a transplant, and a flood of tears came. We told our daughter who was too young to understand.
On February 24, we had to do it again when my youngest brother passed. The shock after just losing dad hit my family like a ton of bricks. While both kids were sad, they were there as we hugged each other and contacted family.
They sent me off to the airport for my brother’s funeral and were there when I came back.
We have been through so much in 2025 even with my medical diagnosis, but we have prepared of kids. My dad never minced words about his health and wanted us to be ready for his passing often. My brother’s death, while unexpected, was in a way still not unbelievable with his illness.
It not only was a new journey as parents but redefined my walk as a mother.
In challenging seasons when the weight of the world feels especially heavy, Kingdom Motherhood isn’t about checking off to-do lists or measurable tasks—it’s about embodying a grace-infused way of living that radiates hope, love, and unwavering faith. In the midst of trials, positive actions become our gentle rebellion against despair, and as Kingdom mothers, we have the extraordinary power to transform difficulties into opportunities for joy and growth.
God is the answer for all of life’s struggles. While suffering can feel unfair, injustice, and even unexplainable, God’s mercy still shines through based on our belief in something more. Our Kingdom motherhood mission is a calling God entrusted us with that we take very seriously.

More on Kingdom motherhood:
Redefining Kingdom Motherhood
Kingdom Motherhood is not defined by perfection or by an endless list of “must-dos.” Instead, it is anchored in the truth that we are vessels of God’s limitless grace. In trying times, our identity as mothers in God’s kingdom shines brightest when we allow grace to guide us rather than relying solely on a checklist of achievements. We are encouraged to see that our worth is not measured by the sum of our efforts, but by the love we share, the hope we instill, and the light we bring into the lives around us.
Embracing Positive Actions Over a To-Do List
When life becomes overwhelming, it is tempting to become enslaved to the idea of “what we can do” in order to fix everything. However, Kingdom Motherhood invites us to shift focus from a burdensome list of tasks to simple, positive actions that reaffirm our identity and purpose. Some uplifting ways to put this into practice include:
Celebrate Small Joys: Whether it’s savoring a quiet cup of coffee before the household stirs or sharing a heartfelt moment with your children, these small acts carry immense power.
Practice Gratitude: Begin or end your day by reflecting on the blessings in your life. A gratitude journal or a few minutes of silent prayer can transform your perspective and remind you that even in trying times, there is goodness.
Connect with Others: Reach out to a friend or join a community group where you can share both struggles and triumphs. Authentic relationships remind you that you are not alone on this journey.
Uplifting Rituals: Engage in simple practices of worship, such as reading a favorite scripture passage, listening to inspirational music, or even dancing in the living room with your children. These moments turn ordinary time into sacred time.
Self-Care as Spiritual Practice: Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is to care for yourself. Whether through a walk in nature, a mindful pause in your day, or a creative outlet, self-care nurtures your soul and replenishes your spirit.
Finding Strength in Community and Inner Peace
During a storm, the shelter of community becomes invaluable. For Kingdom mothers, the family of believers extends far beyond the walls of any traditional church building. Whether you connect with like-minded women online, form a small group, or gather in a safe local space, these communities serve as sources of comfort and accountability. In these spaces, you can share your victories and challenges openly, drawing strength from stories of resilience and the promise of grace that unites us all.
Inner peace is also found in moments of quiet reflection. Setting aside time—even if it's just a few minutes each day—to center yourself in prayer or meditate on God’s promises is a personal act of reclaiming hope and reaffirming your place in God’s kingdom. It reminds you that, no matter what challenges arise, you are known, loved, and capable of transformative grace.
Living Boldly in a Messy World
The world around us may be unpredictable and filled with hardship, but Kingdom Motherhood is a call to live boldly, taking positive action with a spirit of joy rather than one of obligation. Instead of getting caught in an endless pursuit of “doing more,” embrace what is already within you: compassion, creativity, and the resilience that comes from knowing you are deeply loved by God. Choose to let down your guard and allow kindness to fill your days—even if it’s by turning on a favorite hymn, sharing a smile, or simply pausing to notice the beauty in a sunset.
Living boldly doesn’t mean we ignore the reality of our struggles—it means we face them with a courageous heart. By embracing positive actions, we transform everyday moments into expressions of our faith. This freedom inspires those around us and helps build a legacy of hope and strength that endures long after the tough times pass.
In Conclusion
Kingdom Motherhood through trying times is about more than what we can do—it’s about who we are becoming in the process. It is a journey of transformation, where every act of kindness, every moment of gratitude, and every small step toward inner peace becomes a testament to the redeeming power of grace. Even in the midst of hardship, let your life be a radiant reflection of hope and a gentle reminder that you are part of something much larger—a kingdom built on love, resilience, and the promise of everlasting grace.
How have you turned small moments into victories during trying times? What positive actions have reshaped your experience of motherhood? Share your story and inspire others to embrace the journey with joy and trust in the transformative power of God’s grace.
Mrs. Pinky Cooks our 8th Book, Coming Soon!
In motherhood, feeding our families goes beyond physical nourishment—it’s about sustaining their hearts, their minds, and their spirits. My newest book dives into the unseen challenges of motherhood, including how we show up daily through patience, faith, and care. Just like preparing meals requires intention, raising strong children takes spiritual and emotional nourishment. Again, Proverbs 31:15 reminds us, ‘She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household.’ We do this in more ways than one—through our wisdom, through our sacrifices, and through every moment we pour into our families.

What about our kids learning from suffering?
Teaching Kids About Suffering in a Kingdom Motherhood Context
One of the most challenging conversations a mother can have is about suffering. In a world that often paints pain solely as something to be avoided, Kingdom mothers are uniquely called to help children see that suffering—even in its deepest forms—can lead to growth, transformation, and a closer relationship with God. This doesn’t mean sugarcoating reality; rather, it means presenting suffering through the lens of hope, trust, and the promise of eternal grace.
Each of us mothers have a point where we go through something. Our son could have lost me during my childbirth with our daughter, has face bullying in public school, and has watch family members fight medical illness. If we just sit back and not teach them how to handle hardships, they will grow up into spineless adults that fold under any convenience, and the world would eat them up.
There are all kinds of seen and unforeseen issues that we as parents must do our best to help our kids manage feelings, critically think through situations, and to look to God for help. Our job as Kingdom moms is a tough one but with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can make it.
Here are some of my tips to help you:
Embracing Honesty in the Conversation
Kids are naturally curious and may ask hard questions: "Why do bad things happen to good people?" or "Why does God allow pain?" A Kingdom mother approaches these questions with honest conversation, acknowledging that while suffering is real, it is not wasted. Explain that even the Bible’s greatest figures wrestled with pain. Sharing age-appropriate biblical narratives—like Job’s story or the struggles of David in Psalms—gives children concrete examples that even heroes of the faith experienced sorrow and loss. By being honest, we create space for curiosity and trust, enabling our children to lean into God rather than despair.
A Gentle Gospel Perspective on Suffering
Jesus never promised that following Him would be free of sorrow. In fact, He Himself experienced deep agony before His resurrection. Teach your children that suffering is part of our world and that God’s redeeming power often works most powerfully in our darkest moments. It’s like a refining fire that shapes our character and draws us closer to the heart of God. Tools such as Bible object lessons can be particularly effective here. For instance, you might use the analogy of pruning a rose bush. Just as pruning removes dead parts to help a plant flourish, so too can God transform life’s painful moments into opportunities for growth.
Scripture for Hope and Guidance
Several key scriptures can help illustrate these truths:
Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want... Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil…" This well-known psalm reassures us that God is with us even in our darkest moments.
Romans 5:3-5: "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." This passage helps children understand that there is purpose in our pain—a purpose that builds hope and character.
Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Encourage kids to see God’s word as a guide that brings light even when life is challenging.
2 Corinthians 4:17: "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." This verse provides a glimpse of eternity where current struggles are transformed into something beautiful.
James 1:2-4: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." Though it might be hard to grasp at first, this scripture shows that God can use even trial for our growth and maturity.
By focusing on these scriptures, mothers not only provide comfort but also equip children with a permanent source of guidance—a light to follow when the way seems dark.
Practical Strategies to Teach About Suffering
Storytelling with Purpose: Share stories from the Bible in a way that relates to everyday life. Illustrate how figures like Job or King David navigated sorrow but ultimately found hope in God despite their circumstances.
Object Lessons: Use everyday objects for symbolic lessons. For example, a trimmed rose bush can help children visualize how sometimes, a cutting away of what’s dead is necessary for new growth—a tangible reminder that God’s care often means removing what holds us back.
Encouraging Reflective Dialogue: When you or your children experience challenging moments, take the time to talk about the experience. Ask, “What did we learn about God’s love today?” or “How might this hard moment be helping us grow?” Keeping such questions in the foreground nurtures a mindset that values growth.
Modeling Vulnerability and Faith: Children learn by watching us. Share your own struggles and the ways you rely on scripture and prayer during tough times. Let them see that faith is not a denial of pain but a confident trust that God is at work, even when we can’t understand every twist and turn.
Concluding Thoughts
Teaching kids about suffering in a Kingdom motherhood framework isn’t about giving them all the answers or shielding them from pain. Instead, it’s about instilling in them a resilient hope anchored in the reality of God’s enduring love and presence. With scriptures like Psalm 23, Romans 5:3-5, and James 1:2-4, we provide not just words, but a framework for navigating dark times with a hopeful heart. By shifting the focus from merely “what do we do?” to “who are we becoming in God’s transformative process,” we can help our children understand that even in suffering, there is a profound opportunity to grow closer to the heart of the Kingdom.
How have you inspired hope in your children during challenging times? What practical experiences have taught you that even the hardest moments can become steppingstones to deeper faith? Share your stories and let’s build a community that teaches, learns, and grows together through every season of life.
