Overcoming Mom Guilt with God’s Truth: Finding Freedom in Faith, Not Perfection
I forgot.
It was the millionth time that things just did not go as planned and I forgot the appointment today. I thought I had put the appointment in my Google calendar, and I didn’t.
We moms do a lot. I know mine did. And every time I want to complain, I am reminded how mine managed six of us and didn’t at least lose my brother (a running joke). Seriously though, with bills, appointments, school events, weddings, births, my parents made sure they were there.
The level of responsibility to be a great mom standing on the shoulders of women before me is rough. But I have the experience of some of God’s strongest. These women have had 6 or more kids, long marriages, health issues, finances and more to deal with and they survived. We can, too.
Mom guilt. It sneaks up on us when we feel like we’re falling short. Maybe it’s the missed bedtime story, the moment of frustration, or the nagging question: “Am I doing enough?” As mothers striving to raise our children well, we often carry the weight of unrealistic expectations. But here’s the truth—God never called us to perfection. He calls us to faithfulness.
The Lie of Perfection vs. The Truth of Grace
The world tells us that a “good mom” has it all together—flawless patience, homemade meals, spotless homes, and endless energy. But that’s a lie. The enemy thrives on shame, whispering that we’re failing and feeding our insecurities. God, on the other hand, offers something radically different: grace.
In 2 Corinthians 12:9, God reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” He knows we’re not perfect, and He never expected us to be. What He desires is a heart that trusts Him, even in the midst of messy motherhood.
Replacing Guilt with Truth
So how do we combat mom guilt? We replace the lies with the Word of God:
Lie: “I’m not a good enough mom.” Truth: God entrusted my children to me, knowing I am uniquely equipped to love and guide them (Psalm 139:13-14).
Lie: “I should do more.” Truth: My worth is not found in productivity but in Christ (Colossians 2:10).
Lie: “I failed today.” Truth: His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Walking in Freedom
Freedom comes when we surrender our motherhood to the One who created it. It’s choosing to embrace each day with faith instead of fear, trusting that He is present in both our successes and struggles.
So, dear mama, let go of the burden of guilt. You are not called to be a perfect mother, just a present one—rooted in God’s love, guided by His truth, and covered by His grace.
#StrongMomMay: Honoring Mothers & Giving Back
May is a month of warmth, growth, and celebration—and what better way to honor the incredible strength of mothers than with #StrongMomMay? This special initiative is more than just a hashtag; it’s a movement that recognizes the unwavering resilience, love, and dedication of moms everywhere.
This year, we’re taking it a step further with a fundraiser that directly supports mothers in need. Whether they’re single moms juggling work and parenting, caregivers putting their families first, or women overcoming life’s toughest challenges, we want to make a difference. And here’s the best part: there are rewards for those who contribute!
By donating or participating, you not only help mothers in meaningful ways but also have the chance to receive exclusive gifts and experiences. Whether it’s a heartfelt tribute, special recognition, or exciting giveaways, we’re ensuring that every supporter is appreciated.
Join us in celebrating motherhood, giving back, and spreading the message of strength. Let’s make #StrongMomMay a movement that uplifts and empowers, one contribution at a time!
Every donation makes a difference, but for those who contribute $25 or more, we want to gift you a special token of gratitude—our print book, Breaking Fear.
In 2010, I faced one of the darkest moments of my life. After years of infertility, we lost our child—a blessing we had prayed for. The grief was overwhelming, and I felt like I had no way forward. But through God’s strength, I broke fear and found hope again. Breaking Fear is the story of resilience, faith, and healing, and I want to share it with those who help us give back to my mother in this season.

Reframing as a Defense Against Mom Guilt
Reframing is a powerful tool that helps moms shift their perspective and combat mom guilt. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts, reframing allows moms to see situations in a more constructive and compassionate light. Here are some examples of how it works:
1. The Missed Appointment
A mom forgets her child’s doctor’s appointment and feels terrible. Instead of thinking, “I’m so irresponsible,” she can reframe it as, “I’m juggling a lot, and mistakes happen. I’ll reschedule and do better next time”.
2. The Fast-Food Dinner
After a long day, a mom picks up fast food instead of cooking a homemade meal. Instead of thinking, “I’m failing at providing healthy meals,” she can reframe it as, “I’m making sure my kids are fed, and one meal won’t define my parenting”.
3. The Short Temper
A mom snaps at her child after a stressful day and immediately feels guilty. Instead of thinking, “I’m a terrible mom,” she can reframe it as, “I had a tough moment, but I can apologize and show my child that making mistakes and making amends is part of life”.
4. The Working Mom Struggle
A mom feels guilty for working long hours and missing some of her child’s milestones. Instead of thinking, “I’m not present enough,” she can reframe it as, “I’m providing for my family and setting an example of hard work and perseverance”.
5. The Comparison Trap
A mom sees another mom on social media doing elaborate crafts with her kids and feels inadequate. Instead of thinking, “I’m not creative enough,” she can reframe it as, “Every mom has different strengths, and my love and care matter more than Pinterest-worthy activities”.
Reframing helps moms replace guilt with grace, reminding them that perfection isn’t the goal—presence and love are.
