Republican Secret: Reagan's No Fault Divorce Law
Iconic Media is the Number 1 Hub for Marriage Success and Empowerment
Good morning, Icons,
We pray that today brings you closer to your goals in life, love, family and marriage.
We have a new Twitter Space Replay for you that was held yesterday over on my Twitter Timeline.
Unfortunately, Twitter was acting up for Android phone users and we didn’t get the fully conversation I had planned out to you.
So, we will come back to this topic at a later date.
Republican Secret: Reagan's No-Fault Divorce Law
Yesterday on social media, someone threw Ronald Reagan under the bus.
When users were going back and forth on the former president, one pointed out that “No Fault” Divorce was signed into law by him as former Governor of California.
In this Twitter Space Replay about marriage, we discuss how the Republican Party has positioned itself as the party of family.
The Red Team talks often about Christianity, family values and two-person household and yet it skips its own history as it’s most favorite President Undermined the foundations of Marriage with his law.
From 1970 to 2010, all states in the Union began to allow No-Fault divorce, a Blue state being the last one.
Why is this important?
Because it shows why our divorce rate is the same and how easier it is for people to get out of marriage.
We will post the data and research under this newsletter.
Americans aren’t taking marriage as serious anymore because Divorce is at their fingertips.
And this is not new!
My cohost, Coach Felecia Killings of the Felecia Killings Foundation, My Beloved Women’s Ministry and the Conscious Conservative movement and I get into a heated discussion about:
party politics,
notions and talking points aimed at Black America
the marriage/divorce data
some hopeful points changing in the 2020s with new marriage data.
She wrote a little background here:
Background Information:
In 1917, no fault divorces and more social decay was pushed in Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution by Lenin.
A primary goal of the Bolsheviks was, as Elizabeth Brainerd explains, to “break down the traditional ‘bourgeois’ structure of the family in order to equalize the status of men and women.” They did this by implementing a number of changes to the Family Code: allowing civil marriages (whereas before only religious marriage was allowed), granting equal rights to illegitimate and legitimate children, making abortion legal (and free if done in a hospital), and instituting no-fault divorce.
Does this sound eerily familiar?
By 1926, to get a divorce a spouse needed only to register with the local bureau of statistics and the other spouse would be notified three days later. The results were what we would expect: “Divorce became much more common,” says Brainerd, “and for men, re-marriage emerged as a new and widespread marital institution in the wake of divorce. Women were much more likely to remain divorced.”
The news org “The Atlantic” 1926 article is called The Russian Effort to Abolish Marriage - The Atlantic
The decay and culture upheaval made citizens so upset they looked to a new hero to fix everything, Joseph Stalin!
That is right. The Republican Party hero, Ronald Reagan got an idea from Marxist and Russian leader Lenin!
GASP!
The story is not that linear.
Apparently, the National Association for Women Lawyers have been pushed for this in the U.S. since 1947 and Reagan’s own first divorce in 1948 played a part.
…one organization—the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL)—was instrumental in creating this change. Its work on no-fault divorce, which began in 1947…
So, women were at the forefront.
A pattern is brewing. Changes in marriage law start with women’s groups. just as abortion and other laws start here.
NAWL was a broadly feminist organization, and “approved social feminist efforts to pass and defend gender-specific protective labor laws for women,”
Important Note:
The purpose of this discussion is not to fight Reagan’s ghost or to push you into a political persuasion.
This is an educational conversation to show a path of how politics and the social are so intermingled that it has impact our families.
Iconic Media is the only organization that is going to tell you the ugly parts of history and the missing parts in our politics so that we as individuals and as couples can do the work to succeed.
Iconic Media’s focus is the social.
We are a branch of the Conscious Conservative Movement, that is the political and that is where more Indepth political battles are had.
Our Vision is to empower men and women to build successful social empires.
I originally wanted my political work to be separate from my social space work.
But as we at Iconic do the work to give you the best chance of winning in marriage, we have found that politics and social intermingle.
Tell us what you think.
