We are back with another week of celebrating #StrongDadJune.
I pray that you are reaching all your goals in life, love, marriage and family.
We continue our month-long work with some engaging conversations.
Remember, Iconic is a community and we would love to hear from you.
Strong Dad June: 6 Fictional Dads that We Loved
As we continue the month celebrating some really good dads, I asked Icons over at Twitter to name some fiction dads that we all came to enjoy on the big screen and love.
Icons came through once again.
Movie One: Finding Nemo
My own pick for a great fictional father is Nemo’s dad Marlin.
We know many people pick Mufasa or Ariel’s Dad King Triton, but I picked a Pixar dad that was a good one that wouldn’t be the first one that comes to mind.
A dedicated dad may be a helicopter parent, Marlin does what it takes to find his lost son.
Worried, Marlin moves with a purpose and makes it his mission to bring Nemo home.
He (Marlin) is the most overprotective and paranoid parent in the ocean. He is one of the biggest worriers, and can't stop giving out safety tips. He is dedicated to bringing up his son Nemo, and also to being there for Dory. Deep down, he is incredibly brave.
Marlin is not good at telling jokes without taking it too seriously and tends to see the downside of any situation.
Movie Number Two: John Q
Denzel Washington is in one of his best roles with actress Kimberly Elise, a parents struggle with a failed system to save his son.
As always, Denzel Washington kills it in his performance of a dad who wants to save his sons life.
High healthcare cost puts him at his wits end of what to do about his baby that needs a transplant and he will do what any of us would do in this situation, give our child our own.
But how John Q gets to do this for his son is a twist in this movie and a sad admission of the high cost of care in the country.
A strong father shows up and does what it takes for his baby to get the life saving care that he needs at the risk to his own safety.
A sad and feel-good story all wrapped in one that leaves you feeling all kinds of things only the way Denzel can.
Movie Number Three: The Little Mermaid
No matter which version you like, the relationship between Dad King Triton and his daughter Ariel is explored in this Disney animated movie and live action of the same name.
Ariel is your typical teenager doing her own thing despite the care of her dad, even as a mermaid to explore a world she is unready for and unfamiliar with.
So many things happen but the journey proves that nothing can come between a dad and his daughter whether on land or on sea, or an evil sea monster.
Ariel can’t be talked to out of her deepest desire and yet comes to realize that she already had the love she was longing for.

Movie Number Four: India Jones
Professor Henry Walton Jones Sr. is a fictional character in the Indiana Jones franchise who is the beloved Indiana Jones’ father. An academic like his son, the relationship of the two was explored as a delight to fans of the main character.
Dad Jones was obsessed with finding the Holy Grail and has much indifference to his son as they bonded over their singular passions for history.
Despite there seemingly unloving or close relationship both made moves that saved each other’s lives even as Henry looked down on Indie’s use of violence. As he has a fear of rats as Indie hates snakes, you see much of the father in the son even with some notable differences.
Parents love their kids even if it is in a different time period and the rest is history.
Movie Number Five: Taken
Liam Neeson had a special set of skills in this live action-packed movie as a father who was the wrong one to have his daughter kidnapped.
Now a frequently used meme, Taken is a movie that most parents wish they could do if something happened to a child of there’s.
It is a wild ride on a fathers promise to find his daughter and bring her home. There are more movies in the franchise but this one still stand out to me as a daughter close to her father.
When he said he would do it, he meant it. And some of the scenes in the movies made me wonder if this is something real rich people do to younger girls that go missing.
In a world where human trafficking still goes on, it is nice to see a father get to take down scum.
Movie Number Six: To Kill a Mockingbird
A book banned in many ways, this is a racial provocative story about an innocent man and his lawyer, Atticus Finch doing what is right.
A father that is more worried about what his kids thinks of him as opposed to the racist society and situation he finds himself; he does what it takes to try his hardest to get a community to let an Black man go free.
Atticus has so many issues to consider and what the right thing is in this old schoolbook.
Banned or not, everyone should pick it up just to read it for themselves.
People are faced with similar situations today and the choice to do what is right is always starting us in the face even while our children are watching.
