The Law of Sacrificial Love: Building a Marriage That Reflects Christ's Heart
My son came out not breathing. He had sucked in some of the water from birth and he did not come out of me crying which was scary. I had on an oxygen mask.
The room flooded with hospital personnel, and I looked at my husband who was worried. The medical team came in and I began to feel faint.
I was passing out.
As they took my son over to the table to get the water out, my husband looked at me.
I said: “Go to him. Save him. Don’t worry about me.”
I put the oxygen mask back on and closed my eyes.
My son and I were alright. But this would happen almost again seven years later.
I had a scheduled induction for my daughter because my protein levels were too high. All night I waited to dilate but nothing progressed. They told me we would figure it out in the morning.
In the morning, they had to run the labs. Doctors came back to tell my husband and I we needed an emergency c-section. Again, something was happening to me. As my husband and I were talking, I told my husband if he had to choose, choose our daughter.
I know, some folks feel some type of way about mom’s dying. But as we were being rushed, I didn’t have any time to think, and my first thought was to save our baby. I had lived 34 years, and my husband was tough enough to raise the kids. At that time, I wasn’t thinking fully of what I was saying or the implications, but they were rushing me in.
Luckily, my daughter and I didn’t have to come to that because we both made it out alive.
Sacrificial love will be tested during your lifetime with your spouse. There will be health decisions, life and death choices, and days of mourning where crying is not enough. You two will have to face them.
But remember, you are never alone.
The Law of Sacrificial Love
Biblical Foundation: John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.”
Marriage is one of the most profound relationships we can experience, and at its core lies a divine principle: sacrificial love. Rooted in the teachings of Christ, this love calls us to put our spouse's needs above our own, mirroring the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for humanity. But what does this look like in everyday life, and how can we embody this principle to strengthen our marriages?
Understanding Sacrificial Love
Sacrificial love is not about grand gestures alone; it’s about the daily choices we make to prioritize our spouse's well-being. It’s the willingness to set aside personal preferences, comfort, or convenience for the sake of the one we love. In John 15:13, Jesus exemplifies this love by laying down His life for His friends—a love so selfless and pure that it becomes the ultimate standard for us to follow.
Applying Sacrificial Love in Marriage
Serve Without Expectation True sacrificial love means serving your spouse without expecting anything in return. Whether it’s taking on extra chores, supporting their dreams, or simply being present during tough times, these acts of service reflect Christ’s love.
Communicate with Grace Open and honest communication is vital, but sacrificial love calls us to listen with empathy and respond with kindness, even when emotions run high. These foster understanding and deepens the bond between partners.
Forgive Freely No marriage is without its challenges, but forgiveness is a cornerstone of sacrificial love. By letting go of resentment and choosing reconciliation, we mirror Christ’s forgiveness and create a safe space for growth.
Prioritize Your Spouse In a world full of distractions, sacrificial love means making your spouse a priority. Whether it’s carving out quality time or putting their needs above work or hobbies, these actions demonstrate commitment and care.
The Transformative Power of Sacrificial Love
When we embrace the law of sacrificial love, our marriages become a reflection of Christ’s heart. This love not only strengthens the bond between spouses but also serves as a testimony to others, showcasing the beauty of a Christ-centered relationship. It’s a love that endures trials, celebrates victories, and grows deeper with each passing day.
Living Out the Law of Sacrificial Love
To live out this principle, start with small, intentional acts of selflessness. Pray together, seek God’s guidance, and commit to loving each other as Christ loves us. Remember, sacrificial love is not about perfection but about progress—a daily journey of choosing love over self.
By embodying the law of sacrificial love, we honor God’s design for marriage and build a foundation that can withstand life’s challenges. Let your marriage be a beacon of hope and a testament to the transformative power of Christ’s love.

BREAKING FEAR
In 2022 I published my first book, "Breaking Fear” which detailed my miscarriage and the fears I experienced from that time in my life. In 2024, I re-released the book adding epilogue about my daughter's birth. Fear was trying to break me.
However, fear would once again its ugly head in my life.
On February 6, 2025, and February 24, 2025, both my dad and brother passed away. Their deaths have forever impacted me. Through this, I learned fear never stops trying to rear its ugly head in my life.
In fact, I have many fears: of planes, drowning, or of leaving my kids in this chaotic world. Yet, calls my faith calls me not to worry. This is how I discovered His Kingdom message I share with you all here on Iconic.
In Matthew 6:33: Jesus speaks to his disciples who are worried about their basic needs He tells not worry and instructs them to Kingdom of and to live righteously. God gives us the blueprint on how not to be afraid.
Today, I also encourage you to fear not by reading my books for strength during tough times. Subscribe to our Iconic Marriage platform monthly to get our Breaking Fear eBook or yearly to get it in print. We encourage you not to let fear hold you back or stop you from your Iconic marriage.
Break fear be free.

Real-World Applications for Couples
Prioritize Each Other's Needs: Just as Ruth prioritized Naomi's well-being, couples can prioritize their partner's needs by actively listening, supporting their dreams, and making sacrifices for their happiness.
Serve Without Expectation: Like the Widow of Zarephath, couples can serve each other selflessly—whether it's taking on extra responsibilities or offering emotional support during tough times.
Forgive and Reconcile: Abraham's faith reminds us of the importance of trust. Couples can practice forgiveness and reconciliation, letting go of past grievances to strengthen their bond.
Make Time for Each Other: In a busy world, carving out quality time for your spouse is a modern-day act of sacrificial love. Whether it's a date night or simply being present, these moments build connection.
Sacrificial love is about daily choices that reflect Christ's heart. By embracing these principles, couples can create a marriage that honors God and inspires others. Would you like me to expand on any of these examples?
