The Role of Literacy in A Better Society: Inspiring Stories and More
Reading, reading comprehension and writing prose are all a flex when individuals get the proper skills.
And yet, American literacy numbers are dismal.
According to a Gallup analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education, there are about 130 million adults in the U.S. who have low literacy skills.
This indicates that 54% of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 read at a level below that of the sixth grade. 84+ Literacy Statistics In The US For 2023 (Data & Facts) (prosperityforamerica.org)
This is troubling!
Over on Twitter, I have been sounding the alarm on these stats and more.
American Literacy rates and how that is affecting citizens in every state, impacts our ability to empower men and women to build social empires that last because we have written content as a resource for them.
We cannot help those who struggle to read our work!
So, we must step up to do something.
Times cannot be more dire to fix our social empires and that means families, couples and kids having these literacy skills to survive.

This hits home for me. My late grandmother only had a 3rd grade reading level. She raised 7 children and a host of grand and great-grandchildren before her death in 2011 at the age of 90.
That meant my grandmother went from the age of 8 to 90 without basic reading skills.
She grew up during the Great Depression and segregation. Helping her own parents with their farm was more important than her attending school.
The article provided below talks about how the U.S. government had to shift its focus in education during these trying times.
The period after the crash of the stock markets in October 1929 was marked by the closure of banks, businesses, and factories. There was massive unemployment, particularly among minorities, and the markets were flooded with unemployed young people. The government’s focus shifted and placed the priority on providing relief measures and aid to the affected.

I can only imagine how that affected her life, her and my grandfather’s marriage and her raising my mom, aunts and uncles.
I am almost certain that if she had higher reading skills, that would have served her in all her roles in a better capacity.
Inspiring Stories and More
Books are our biggest tool. Amazing fiction and non-fiction books inspire us to be and do more. It also helps us with better literacy skills.
Self-help books empower us to be our greatest selves.
The Bible tells us of a Savior who died on our Behalf and rose again.
Reading unlocks our hard stories and transforms them in the solutions we need.
Words are powerful: People still use them for good or evil when they can.
Today’s article isn’t just a reminder of the troubles we are in by the hope we can bring.
We are sharing that good news with you.
In September 2022, I told my personal story “Breaking Fear” in which I wanted to die.
We lost our baby due to miscarriage and I wanted to unalive myself to go be with that child.
From the lessons in “The Write Conservative” a leadership program by Coach Felecia Killings, I was able to share my inspiring and hard story with others.
And many reviews show that it had an impact.
Watch below in the Youtube video to see how my story came alive.
As I began the training, I realized I had to be truthful and impactful. What would my readers gain from this story?
That is what inspiring stories do: it changes readers lives.
Whether it is the biography of Frederick Douglass or a fiction work like the Chronicles of Narnia, books have the power to impact generations letting authors speak through powerful prose and garner support for their readers.
The Great Debate: Black Progressivism vs Black Conservatism
The Felecia Killings Foundation and the Conscious Conservative Movement brought the power of Conscious Conservatism to Black residents during Georgia's 2022 midterms and laid the groundwork for building the Conservative Alliance.
ow we are ready to multiply our efforts by launching our first annual Conscious Conservative Movement Leadership Convention and The Great Debate, hosted this October 6-8, 2023 in Atlanta, GA.
This round, it is Progressivism vs. Conservatism.
And we are ready to bring the battlefield of ideas to Black residents to offer them political choices this next round.
During our empowering event, attendees will:
Understand the basic definitions of Black Conservatism vs. Black Progressivism
Understand the need to look at Black History from the lens of both thoughts to determine how best to rebuild, strengthen, and protect Black communities
Understand semantics and developing coherent, research-based arguments that win on the battlefield of ideas
And understand the importance of selling these ideas, solutions, and political thoughts to Black voters who are eager for political competition.
With your help and financial support, we can offer Black residents FREE access to our Great Debate and register new voters in time for Election 2024.

Key Points
Being Iconic means having the basic skills to survive.
That means reading, writing, and arithmetic skills have to be looked at when we talk about survival and better households.
It is imperative on us not to wait on government or some benevolent being to help us get the skills we need.
When we take our literacy rate seriously and start to invest money, education and resources in to changing them for the better we can create the communities that are the backbone of a great nation.
