These 12 Timeless Love Songs Picked by You
Hi Icons,
Hope you are having a wonderful week!
I was in a mood this week listening to some songs and I got to thinking about songs people enjoyed that expressed their love.
Music, as stated in another article, should be called the 6th love language.
Music is a form of communication that crosses all cultures, races, and nations.
My question to you Icons over at Twitter was:

These 12 Timeless Love Songs Picked by You
Song Number 1: “At Last” by Etta James
Etta was a powerhouse singer and has many classics that stick in your mind.
Look at these lyrics and I bet you can hear her soulful sultry voice as you read.
Song Number 2: “Stuck on You” by Lionel Richie
“Yes, I am on my way. Mighty glad you stayed”. Lionel has a lot of hits but this one I can hum while I am typing. I don’t mind either version with Darius Rucker or not.
Song 3: “For the love in you” by Howard Hewitt
A lot of the songs dropped in this article are older than me, but I am so grateful to my parents and the internet for introducing me to such timeless classics. Now, I can appreciate this song. There are many artists on this list that are more mainstream and songs more popular, but this one hits you somewhere deep with its lead and background singers. Definitely a song that grew on me.
Song Number 4: “You’re the Best Thing that Ever Happened to me” by Gladys Knight
Glady’s dubbed the “Empress of Soul” was a former member of the Pips with their R &B hits. She went solo and ventured into pop sing for decades. Sometimes it’s those first songs we get from our love that stay with us for life. And through all everything, it comes back to remind us why we love.
Song Number 5: “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton
Before his Superbowl performance, Chris Stapleton his us with a song and is the first country music on this list. A genre that definitely touches on the ups and downs of life, love, marriage, country music definitely has spot in people’s hearts. (I know Darius Ruckus was an honorable mention above).
Side bar: When my husband had to go to TN on a college trip, he enjoyed it so much that he took us back. We had an awesome time in Dolly’s neck of the woods. Spending time and making memories is a part of married life that gets you do the tough times.
Song number 6: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Haley Reinhart
Sometimes love just hits you. And you wonder how it happens. But with their personality, their wits, and charms you can’t help yourself but to fall for them. This song has another version by the King, Elvis Presley but Haley here does an awesome job with her deep smooth voice and timeless cadence. Lots of comments over on YouTube talk about how her version was used at their weddings. Awe.
Song Number 7: “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker
As a woman with a deeper voice, growing up, I loved the way Anita carried her notes and strung together the words the words so effortlessly in this song. Her classiness at a time when shaking butts and scantily clad clothing was more and more in music, Ms Baker has always carried herself in such a way women could look up to. This song and its music video stick with you as you hear how she sings.
I know Renee had more songs, but I choose the one she decided to write first which was a great choice like the others.
Song Number 8: “My First, My Last, My Everything” by Barry White
We mentioned women with deeper sultry voices but no man in the love song genre goes as deep as the beloved Barry White. The man with his big voice and commanding presence choose to give us a classic that stands the test of time. And the melody is more upbeat and something to dance to right out the beginning, “We definitely got it together, baby”.
Al Green is here too. And he definitely the guy you want in rotation if you are making a love playlist for your loved one. His high notes and a powerful voice that sticks with you a long time.
Song Number 9: “Everything Little Thing She does is Magic” By The Police
A song that seemed to define 80s teens as many in the YouTube comments suggest, the Police spoke to a generation. The big hair, rock voice and tunes can take you back to a different time and different genre to express love. This song also has a catchy tune to dance and skate to showing love can be a fun ride. And sometimes it does feel like everything your love does is magic.
Song Number 10: “First Time I Every Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack
This song was not original Roberta’s, but it became a smash hit when she did it in 1972. The original singer and songwriter, lovers turned married couple in Britian, found more favor with Roberta fans worldwide.
She won a grammy, song of the year and a billboard no 1. I guess it is other people’s favorite song too.
Song Number 11: “I Cross my Heart” By George Strait
“My love is unconditional. We knew it from the start.” Whew what better lyrics than to open with to this 1992 country song. It hits all the right notes and right places when you are in love. This is a reminder that you can find a good song to sing your sweetie in whatever genre is your favorite. This sone is 31 years old, whew time flies.
Song Number 12: “A house is not a home” by Luther Vandross
This is a great song sung by Luther and his version, especially done live, is amazing. But it wasn’t his at first. Like many other songs on this list, Luther is not the original artist. Dionne Warick sung this song 1st and she has numerous times gave her blessing to Luther and he even had the privilege of singing it in front of her. Look at her face here!
My house is definitely not a home without my husband. I still remember when Tyler Perry was singing this song after one of his Madea speeches, the one about letting people go, and was teasing us with his version.
What is your favorite love song? What is missing from the list? I know you thought of some. Put them in the comments so we can discuss them. And remember, in all you do, be Iconic.
