Now into today’s Kingdom Motherhood lesson:
What Values Are You Passing Down? Kingdom Motherhood & Building a Lasting Legacy
My daughter is spunky. My son laughs loud. The kids play videos, read and get into things. The are an example of the parenting my husband and I give them.
One time, our daughter, was just twirling in the living room and I glanced at her. I remember dancing like that in front of my dad, allowing him to see me and my dance. I saw myself in her playfulness, her attitude and her being.
Our kids copy us, good and bad. They have our good traits and our bad ones mixed with their own unique twist. They become our heirs as we model good character, integrity and spiritual growth right before there eyes.
Now, am I always proud of what they do? No. They speak negatively about their body image because my own weight issues, they may laugh out loud at inappropriate times, but they do get compliments for saying “Yes, Ma’am/Sir” like my parents taught me.
Kingdom Motherhood is a high calling. Our work depends on what we passed to our kids. They pick up on what we do more than what we say, I can tell. Your actions speak volumes to the legacy we leave behind.
The Bible does not command leaving an inheritance, but it allows and encourages it as an act of wise stewardship and parental care. In Proverbs 13:22, it says, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,” implying that it is commendable for parents to plan for the future financial stability of their descendants. However, parents should not feel obligated to save up everything for their children’s inheritance, neglecting themselves in the process.
While inheritance often means money, there is so many other things we can pass to our children as we should.
Motherhood is more than a role—it is a divine assignment, a calling to shape the next generation with wisdom, faith, and strength. As Kingdom Mothers, we are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of passing down values that not only sustain our families but also build a lasting legacy that honors God. The question we must continuously ask ourselves is: What values are we passing down?
1. Faith in God
The foundation of Kingdom Motherhood is unwavering faith. Teaching our children to lean on God, trust His promises, and seek His presence in all they do equips them to stand firm in an ever-changing world. Prayer, worship, and biblical wisdom must be woven into daily life, showing our children that their strength comes from the Lord.
2. Resilience & Strength
Life is filled with challenges, but Kingdom mothers model resilience. We teach our children that setbacks are not defeats but opportunities for growth. By demonstrating perseverance, forgiveness, and emotional strength, we impart an unwavering spirit that prepares them to face life's obstacles with grace and courage.
3. Love & Compassion
A lasting legacy is built on love—love for God, love for family, and love for others. Kingdom Mothers instill empathy, kindness, and servant-hearted leadership in their children. By showing them how to love unconditionally, we prepare them to become impactful individuals who bring light wherever they go.
4. Integrity & Honor
Our children must understand the importance of character. Honesty, humility, and responsibility set the foundation for their lives. Teaching them that their words and actions matter, and that honor is not just about reputation but about living according to God’s standards, ensures they walk with integrity.
5. Purpose & Vision
A Kingdom legacy is not accidental; it is intentional. As mothers, we must encourage our children to seek their God-given purpose, to dream boldly, and to move forward in faith. Our role is to guide them toward discovering their gifts and using them to fulfill their divine calling.
By passing down these values, we are not just raising children—we are raising Kingdom warriors, leaders, and legacy builders. What we teach them today echoes into eternity. So, mothers, let’s be intentional, prayerful, and purposeful in the seeds we sow into our children’s hearts.
Let’s Start the Conversation: What aspect of Kingdom Motherhood resonates with you the most?

In 2010, I faced one of the darkest moments of my life. After years of infertility, we lost our child—a blessing we had prayed for. The grief was overwhelming, and I felt like I had no way forward. But through God’s strength, I broke fear and found hope again. Breaking Fear is the story of resilience, faith, and healing, and I want to share it with those who help us give back to my mother in this season.

Generational Disagreements & Mistakes in Legacy Building
Every generation aims to pass down wisdom, values, and traditions, but the reality is often filled with tension and missteps. Many of us have witnessed how misunderstandings, outdated mindsets, and unaddressed generational wounds can lead to friction in families. While the goal is always to leave behind something meaningful, we must reflect on how we pass things down and whether we are truly setting up the next generation for success.
1. Holding onto Outdated Lessons
Many parents and grandparents raised their children based on what they knew at the time, but some lessons may no longer serve today’s realities. Whether it was promoting strict gender roles, discouraging emotional vulnerability, or resisting modern advancements, these teachings sometimes limit growth rather than encourage it.
2. Silence Instead of Healing
Generational trauma runs deep in many families, yet silence is often the default response. Instead of openly discussing past struggles—financial hardships, racial injustices, or family conflicts—previous generations may have chosen secrecy, thinking it was best to protect their children from pain. Unfortunately, this often leads to repeating harmful cycles rather than healing from them.
3. Conditional Love & Tough Expectations
Some families have passed down love that feels transactional love that is based on achievements, conformity, or obedience rather than genuine acceptance. This can create emotional distance and a pressure to meet impossible expectations, leading to strained relationships where children feel unseen or unappreciated.
4. Financial Missteps & Fear of Risk
Not all financial lessons passed down were built for wealth-building. Some families discouraged entrepreneurship, avoided financial literacy conversations, or operated in survival mode rather than long-term investment thinking. As a result, future generations may inherit not just financial struggles, but also a mindset rooted in scarcity rather than abundance.
5. Resistance to Change & Growth
Some elders struggle to embrace new ideas, perspectives, and societal shifts. They may reject conversations around mental health, dismiss evolving cultural norms, or struggle to understand their children’s world. This resistance can lead to generational gaps, where younger individuals feel unheard or judged rather than guided.
Breaking the Cycle
Legacy is more than passing down traditions; it is ensuring that what we leave behind uplifts and empowers. We can break cycles by:
Encouraging Open Conversations: Healing starts when we allow space for truth, reflection, and understanding.
Updating Lessons & Values: Teaching adaptable wisdom rather than rigid rules ensures future generations can navigate life effectively.
Practicing Grace & Acceptance: Unconditional love builds trust and strengthens relationships across generations.
Prioritizing Education & Wealth Strategies: Financial empowerment sets up a legacy beyond survival—it fosters growth.
At the end of the day, we must ask ourselves: Are we passing down burdens, or are we passing down blessings? The answer to that question determines the legacy we leave behind.
