Making Financial Goals for Your Family and Marriage in 2025
Planning for your future starts now. Do not worry, Iconic Marriages have you covered.
As we step into 2025, it's a great time to set financial goals that will strengthen your family and marriage. It does not matter what politicians are elected in Washington, D.C. or who is the newest financial guru on social media, you have to get your financials in order that works best for you and yours. Here are some practical tips to help you achieve those goals:
1. Break Financial Fears
We do not sell fear here. Instead, we teach you how to break it. Financial fears can be daunting but facing them head-on is the first step to overcoming them. Identify the source of your fears and make an action plan2. Whether it's retirement savings, debt, or unexpected expenses, breaking these fears down into manageable steps can make a significant difference.
2. Discuss Money Goals with Your Spouse
Open communication about finances is crucial for a healthy relationship. Sit down together and discuss your financial goals for the year4. This can include saving for a house, paying off debt, or planning for retirement. Use tools like budgeting apps to track your progress and keep each other accountable4.
3. Include Vacation and Fun Time in Your Budget
It's important to balance saving with enjoying life. Include vacation and fun activities in your budget to ensure you're not just saving for the future but also enjoying the present. Plan a family vacation or set aside funds for date nights and weekend getaways4.
4. Automate Savings for Shared Goals
Automating your savings can help you stay on track with your financial goals. Set up automatic transfers to a joint savings account for big milestones like a honeymoon, home renovation, or family vacation4. Watching your savings grow together can be motivating and rewarding.
5. Review and Cancel Unused Subscriptions
Take a look at your shared and individual subscriptions. Are there streaming services, fitness apps, or other memberships that you're not using? Canceling these can free up extra money for your shared goals4.
6. Cook Together and Pack Lunches
Dining out can be expensive, so try cooking meals together and packing lunches for work. This not only saves money but also provides quality time together4. Make it fun by trying new recipes and meal-prepping on weekends.
7. Compare Insurance Rates Annually
Review your car, health, and home insurance policies annually to ensure you're getting the best rates. Bundling policies or switching providers can lead to substantial savings4.
8. Create a Joint Monthly Budget
Budgeting as a team fosters transparency and accountability. List all fixed and variable expenses and track your spending together4. Schedule weekly "money check-ins" to review progress and adjust as needed.
By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can make 2025 a year of financial success and stronger partnership. Remember, it's about working together as a team to achieve your shared dreams and enjoy life along the way.

January Fundraising Goal: $4,200
Dear Icons,
As we kick off the new year, we are excited to announce our January fundraising goal of $4,200, which is part of our larger effort to raise $50,000 in 2025. This month, your contributions will be directed towards some critical areas that will help us achieve our mission of empowering marriages and building strong families across America.
Allocation of Funds:
$1,200 towards our CCM (Conscious Conservative Movement Ministry and Leadership Academy) training by
Coach Felecia Killings
, which is essential for expanding our reach and impact towards federal contracts. My next meeting is this month.
Medical Bills: Supporting ongoing medical expenses as I continue my battle with Crohn's disease like doctors’ appointments, testing and medications.
Free Books to Libraries in Middle Georgia: Providing valuable resources to mothers in our community, helping them build strong and healthy families.
Rewards for Your Support: As a token of our appreciation, we are offering exclusive rewards for our contributors:
A copy of our newly released book, "Mrs. Pinky Cooks": This cookbook shares my culinary journey, from growing up cooking with my mother and grandmother, to feeding my family of 8, and my fellow soldiers in the U.S. Army. It also addresses the challenges of cooking with Crohn's disease, prediabetes, and allergies.
Your support is crucial to our success. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference. Together, we can make January a month of progress and positivity as we work towards our 2025 goals.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Let's make 2025 a year of growth, resilience, and love for families across America.
Money Pitfalls and How They Impact Marriages
Financial issues are one of the leading causes of stress in marriages. Here are some common money pitfalls and how they can affect relationships:
1. Lack of Communication
Failure to discuss financial matters can lead to misunderstandings and resentment. Open, honest communication about money is crucial for a healthy marriage.
2. Debt
Debt can create significant stress and strain on a marriage. High levels of debt can lead to arguments and feelings of insecurity.
3. Different Spending Habits
When one partner is a spender and the other is a saver, conflicts can arise. It's important to find a balance and respect each other's financial habits.
4. Financial Secrets
Keeping financial secrets, like hidden debt or secret spending, can erode trust. Transparency is key to a healthy financial relationship.
5. Lack of Financial Planning
Without a clear financial plan, couples might struggle to manage their money effectively. This can lead to financial instability and stress.
6. Not Saving for Emergencies
Failing to have an emergency fund can leave couples vulnerable to unexpected expenses. This can create additional stress and strain on the relationship.
Is 50/50 Feasible in Today's World?
The idea of splitting everything 50/50 might seem fair, but it may not always be the best approach. Here's why:
Different Income Levels: If one partner earns significantly more than the other, a 50/50 split might not be practical or fair.
Shared Financial Goals: Couples should focus on shared financial goals rather than strict equality. This means pooling resources and working together towards common objectives.
Flexibility: Life circumstances, like job loss or health issues, can impact a partner's ability to contribute equally. Flexibility and understanding are essential.
Do You: Not everyone wants to do a 50/50 or a traditional husband works, and wife stays home. But if either works for you, do it. We encourage you to do what works for you and it might be traditional roles, it might not be. Whatever you do, make sure that both spouses agree and check in from time to time to see if there’s ways to improve.
A Better Approach for Families
A more balanced approach might be to contribute based on individual financial capacities while maintaining joint financial goals. Here are some tips:
Joint Budgeting: Create a budget that reflects your combined income and expenses. This helps you plan and prioritize together.
Proportional Contributions: Contribute to joint expenses based on a percentage of your income. This ensures fairness and takes into account different income levels.
Regular Financial Check-Ins: Schedule regular financial discussions to review your budget, goals, and any changes in your financial situation.
Emergency Fund: Build an emergency fund together to ensure financial security during unexpected situations.
Shared Savings Goals: Set shared savings goals for big expenses like vacations, home purchases, or retirement.
By focusing on collaboration and open communication, couples can create stable financial goals that support their marriage and family.
