Now into today’s discussion:
Kingdom Motherhood: Raising Children to Overcome the Poverty Mindset
We didn’t always have a lot growing up. My parents did the best we could. We still went to amusement parks, had big Christmases, and were having fun. But the things we didn’t gave, that built motivation in us children to succeed through hard work, focus on education, and the faith in God our parents instilled in us. My parents did not always have money to pass down, but they had knowledge that many of us use today.
My husband and I work hard to teach kids the value of time and money. Yet, kids can only think so far out. They see better in our examples than they hear in our preaching. I am determined to leave our kids with the resources to use money as the tool it is and to trust God to supply our needs.
In a world where scarcity thinking is normalized, Kingdom Motherhood calls us to raise children with faith-filled abundance rather than a poverty mindset. As mothers, we are not just nurturing physical needs—we are shaping the way our children think about provision, wealth, and God's promises.
We mothers are called to steward our families as we support our husband as he provides provisions for the household. While that isn’t just about wealth, it is about transforming the family mindset to what really matters and is valuable passing down experiences that show excellence and legacy that lasts.
What Is a Poverty Mindset?
A poverty mindset isn’t just about financial lack; it’s a deep-rooted belief that resources, success, and opportunities are limited or unattainable. It manifests in phrases like: 🔹 “I’ll never have enough.” 🔹 “We can’t afford that, so we won’t even try.” 🔹 “Rich people must be selfish.” 🔹 “I have to struggle to be holy.”
But Kingdom principles teach the opposite: God is a provider, generosity multiplies, and abundance is accessible through faith, wisdom, and work (Philippians 4:19, 2 Corinthians 9:8).
How Moms Can Teach Children Against Poverty Thinking
✅ Speak Abundance Over Their Lives Instead of saying “We can’t afford this”, shift the conversation to: ✔️ “Let’s trust God and find wise ways to make this happen.” ✔️ “We may not have it yet, but God always provides in His timing.”
✅ Teach Financial Stewardship Early ✔️ Introduce biblical principles like saving, sowing, and wise spending (Proverbs 3:9-10). ✔️ Help children earn, manage, and give generously instead of fearing money.
✅ Encourage Faith-Based Risk Taking ✔️ Inspire your kids to dream BIG and pursue goals without fear of failure. ✔️ Remind them: “God blesses those who trust Him and take action” (Matthew 25:14-30).
✅ Model Generosity & Gratitude ✔️ Show them that giving multiplies, not diminishes (Luke 6:38). ✔️ Teach them to thank God for what they have rather than focusing on what’s missing.
Breaking Generational Poverty Thinking
Poverty mindset is often handed down generationally, but Kingdom Motherhood breaks the cycle! Your role as a mother is not just to provide materially but to equip your children with a prosperity mentality that honors God.
🙌 It’s time to raise Kingdom kids who think, speak, and live in abundance!

In 2010, I faced one of the darkest moments of my life. After years of infertility, we lost our child—a blessing we had prayed for. The grief was overwhelming, and I felt like I had no way forward. But through God’s strength, I broke fear and found hope again. Breaking Fear is the story of resilience, faith, and healing, and I want to share it with those who help us give back to my mother in this season.

Let’s Break the Poverty Mindset
Breaking a poverty mindset takes intentional effort, but it’s absolutely possible. Here are five key strategies:
Shift Your Perspective on Wealth Instead of thinking resources are scarce or unattainable, start believing that abundance is possible through faith, wisdom, and action. Remind yourself that success isn’t a limited resource—there’s enough for everyone.
Practice Financial Stewardship Learn to manage money wisely by budgeting, saving, and investing in opportunities that create long-term value. Viewing money as a tool rather than something to fear or obsess over can help break negative financial patterns.
Challenge Limiting Beliefs Common poverty mindset phrases like “I’ll never be able to afford that” or “Rich people are selfish” can hold you back. Instead, replace them with affirmations like:
“I am capable of creating wealth.”
“Opportunities are available to me.”
“Generosity leads to abundance.”
Take Faith-Based Risks A poverty mindset can keep people stuck in fear of failure. Instead, embrace opportunities that push you toward growth. Whether it’s starting a business, investing in education, or pursuing a new career, stepping out in faith can open doors.
Model Abundance in Daily Life Generosity, gratitude, and wise decision-making set the tone for future success. When you practice giving and acknowledge the blessings in your life, it reinforces the idea that abundance is not just about money—it’s about a fulfilling life.
