Mrs. Pinky's Top 9 Kingdom Dating Tips for an Iconic Marriage
Introduction
Like most little girls, I always pictured my wedding and marriage. Yet, to get there, I had no clue what I was doing. It doesn’t mean my parent didn’t do their job, they did, by setting an example and talking to us often. I just lacked the courage to stick to my principles, learn the power of no and to know what I want in the person in front of me.
Dating can be tricky with so many ideas out there. But at Iconic Marriages we use the Bible as our blueprint because the covenant of marriage comes from God.
If we do things God’s way, we get his results. -Coach Felicia Killings
For the last two newsletters on Kingdom Dating, I leave with you my nine top tips for dating in such a way that it leads to an Iconic Marriages based in Kingdom Laws and Principles. To know what those are, check out our Featured Articles section below.
Marriage is not just a romantic endeavor; it’s a sacred covenant that reflects God’s love for His people. Kingdom couples should approach marriage with intentional preparation—spiritually, emotionally, and practically—to build a lifelong union that honors Christ.
Here are nine steps to prepare for a God-centered marriage, each supported by biblical wisdom and real-world insights.
1. Seek God’s Guidance
Before committing to marriage, couples should seek divine direction through prayer, fasting, and wise counsel.
📖 Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
🎬 Example: Many couples cite the story of Christian singer Tauren Wells and his wife, Lorna, as a testament to seeking God’s will before committing to marriage. Their journey of prayer and faith confirmed that their union was divinely aligned.
2. Build a Strong Spiritual Foundation
A thriving marriage must be rooted in a shared faith. Couples should pray together, attend church, and encourage each other spiritually.
📖 Matthew 7:24-25 – “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
📖 Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
🎬 Example: The marriage of Jonathan and Kanika McReynolds reflects the importance of spiritual connection. Jonathan, a gospel artist, has openly discussed how shared faith strengthens their relationship.
3. Establish Open & Honest Communication
Marriage requires deep emotional connection, and that starts with transparent communication.
📖 Ephesians 4:29 – “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.”
🎬 Example: Christian relationship coaches Heather and Cornelius Lindsey often stress communication in their teachings, helping couples build trust through dialogue rooted in biblical principles.
4. Financial Stewardship & Planning
Finances are often a major challenge in relationships. Couples should discuss budgeting, saving, and financial goals.
📖 Luke 14:28 – “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”
🎬 Example: Celebrities like Steph and Ayesha Curry have been transparent about handling finances wisely. Their approach balances generosity, business ventures, and giving back to the community.
5. Set Clear Boundaries & Prioritize Purity
Purity isn’t just about physical intimacy—it’s about guarding hearts and minds.
📖 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 – “Flee from sexual immorality…You are not your own; you were bought at a price.”
🎬 Example: Influencer Madi Prewett Troutt, who openly discusses prioritizing purity before marriage, has inspired many young Christians to honor God in their relationships.
6. Learn Conflict Resolution Through Biblical Principles
Handling conflict biblically prevents division and fosters reconciliation.
📖 Colossians 3:13 – “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
🎬 Example: The testimony of Devon Franklin and Meagan Good (before their divorce) showed that even faith-filled couples face struggles but can turn to God for wisdom in navigating difficulties.
7. Surround Yourselves with Godly Counsel
Marriage is strengthened by wise mentors and spiritual guidance.
📖 Proverbs 11:14 – “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”
🎬 Example: Many Christian couples have sought counsel from leaders like T.D. Jakes, whose teachings emphasize the importance of wise, godly mentorship in marriage preparation.
8. Understand Roles & Responsibilities
Biblical marriage isn’t about dominance but mutual love and service.
📖 Ephesians 5:22-25 – “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord… Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.”
🎬 Example: Kirk and Tammy Franklin have spoken about how mutual respect and understanding biblical roles have made their marriage successful.
9. Prepare for Covenant, Not Just Ceremony
A wedding lasts one day, but marriage is a lifelong commitment.
📖 Genesis 2:24 – “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
🎬 Example: The story of Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters highlights marriage preparation beyond just wedding planning—focusing on faith, purpose, and honoring God.
Conclusion
Marriage preparation isn’t just about logistics—it’s about building a covenant that honors God. With intentionality, wisdom, and faith, couples can create a foundation that will stand strong in every season. The example of the couples above does not mean they are perfect. You can look around your own family, community, or use examples from resecures to help develop a healthy relationship.

Bonus: 9 More Tips at Kingdom Dating So You Win
Dating in today’s world can feel like navigating a maze of shifting norms, digital interactions, and evolving expectations. Here are some modern dating tips to help you build meaningful connections while staying true to your values:
1. Be Authentically Yourself
In a world of curated social media personas, authenticity is refreshing. Be honest about your intentions, values, and expectations. 📖 Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” 🎬 Example: Celebrities like Sadie Robertson Huff openly share their faith and values in relationships, proving that staying true to yourself attracts the right people.
2. Use Technology Wisely
Dating apps and social media can be helpful, but they shouldn’t replace real-life connections. Prioritize face-to-face interactions to build genuine chemistry. 📖 Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 🎬 Example: Many couples, including Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, met through intentional, faith-based communities rather than relying solely on apps.
3. Set Clear Boundaries
Modern dating often blurs lines, but setting emotional, physical, and spiritual boundaries is key to maintaining respect and integrity. 📖 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 – “Flee from sexual immorality…You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 🎬 Example: Influencer Madi Prewett Troutt has been vocal about setting boundaries in dating, inspiring many young Christians to honor God in their relationships.
4. Prioritize Emotional & Mental Health
Healthy relationships start with healthy individuals. Invest in self-growth, therapy, and emotional well-being before entering a relationship. 📖 2 Timothy 2:22 – “Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 🎬 Example: Many public figures, including Justin Bieber, have spoken about the importance of mental health in relationships.
5. Slow Down & Be Intentional
Modern dating often rushes intimacy, but taking time to truly know someone leads to stronger foundations. 📖 Ecclesiastes 3:1 – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” 🎬 Example: The rise of “slow dating” trends encourages people to focus on deep connections rather than quick flings.
6. Watch for Red Flags
Pay attention to warning signs like dishonesty, manipulation, or lack of respect. 📖 Proverbs 22:3 – “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” 🎬 Example: Many viral dating stories highlight the importance of discernment—learning from others’ mistakes can help avoid heartbreak.
7. Surround Yourself with Wise Counsel
Seek advice from mentors, married couples, and faith-based communities. 📖 Proverbs 11:14 – “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.” 🎬 Example: Many Christian couples credit pre-marital counseling and mentorship for their strong marriages.
8. Communicate Clearly & Honestly
Modern dating often involves mixed signals. Be upfront about your intentions and expectations. 📖 Ephesians 4:29 – “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.” 🎬 Example: The trend of “clear is in, vague is out” encourages transparency in dating.
9. Date with Purpose, Not Just for Fun
Casual dating can lead to confusion and heartbreak. Approach relationships with intentionality. 📖 Genesis 2:24 – “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” 🎬 Example: Many Kingdom couples share testimonies of how intentional dating led to strong, faith-filled marriages.
